Great tool for cracking pecans. I have enjoyed using it versus other types of crackers. It has given me more complete halves. Would definitely recommend
Great tool
I grew up on a farm with a very large English Walnut tree, and have consequently been cracking bushels of walnuts every season for 35 years. I usually crack the walnut for hours in a sitting, and 9 out of 10 times I only stop because my fingers are starting to blister. Despite the discomfort it is still a beloved tradition, and important part of our winter diet.Initially I was skeptical that a better nutcracker did, or could exist. Sure the old classic nutcrackers aren't great, but I'd tried some "heavy duty" nutcrackers in the past, like the lever controlled stationary cracker that can pulverize macadamias like they're peanuts, but those are slow and clunky, and at the end of the day nothing beat the speed and efficiency of the "classic" nutcracker.Enter this funnel shaped nutcracker, which, as far as I'm concerned, defies belief. It is actually easy to crack the walnuts with this cracker. And because of the design I don't have to worry about the placement of the bars on the nut to get the perfect crack, just pop the walnut in the funnel and crunch. It is also more controlled, so I don't seem to get as many "over-cracks" shattering the meat of the walnut inside. Did I mention it's easy? I mean, almost too easy, the tool is doing all the work. I haven't, and don't anticipate I ever will get blisters using this nutcracker, even if I went at it all day. When I first picked it up I thought it was too lightweight to be made of solid metal. I actually suspiciously thought it could have been plastic with chrome plating, and expecting that I would expose the fraud I scraped a spot on the bottom of the handle to remove the chrome and expose what was underneath. Which is in fact metal, as you can see in my photo if you look closely. I'm guessing that it is aluminum, which would explain the weight. If you crack a lot of nuts you owe it to yourself to pick up one of these nut crackers. This is a whole different ball game from your grandmothers nutcracker. Save yourself the blisters, eat more nuts.
Wouldn’t crack hazelnuts.
This nut cracker isn’t messing around. It’s solid, heavy, and feels like it was made to last through more than just a holiday bowl of walnuts. The funnel shape makes it easy to line things up, and the grip gives you some real leverage, no slipping or awkward fumbling to get it positioned just right.Perfect for the backyard haul when the kids come in with pockets full of nuts, we have 3 different nut trees in the yard, or when we’re cracking open a batch for baking. It handles a range of sizes without needing adjustment, and it doesn’t feel like it’s going to snap in half mid-use. Just a good, reliable tool to have on hand when nut season rolls around.
This nut cracker is well made and works great. It is easy to hold and operate with good leverage. It works very well with walnuts, pecans, brazil nuts and filberts but almonds are a little trickier to crack. They need to be put in crosswise, instead of the tip downward, to crack better but it still works with them. We really love raw nuts and this is a very good nut cracker.
Pros: The tapered design of this nut cracker means you can use it on a fairly wide range of nut sizes, which is nice. The many metal 'teeth' work well to hold nuts in place as you crack it.Cons: Although made of all metal, the unit feels a bit cheap overall. There is no spring or other sort of addition to make opening and closing easier, and no way to lock it in a closed position. The handles are okay, but not super comfortable, especially with larger nuts or repetitive use.Overall: Decent for opening a range of nuts.
