Great small cutting knife

Great knife for small tasks. It's like a sawI mainly bought it for cutting bread. But use it for a lot more.

Serrations not sharp, pints are not cut with bevel

The knife has a good feel in the handle but it is not as sharp as I was expecting compared to other similar knives that I have. In particular the points of the serrations do not seem to be effective at going through crust and it tends to saw more than cut. I took a close up picture of the serrations compared to another knife that I own. You can see in the picture that the bevel cut on the Hummbee is very steep and does not effectively make a point at the tip of the serration. Perhaps I got a bad knife but it does not look like the serrations were cut at the right angle and did not properly finish the point of the serration. In the pic, the Humbee is in the lower right corner and my other knife is to the left of it for comparison.

Nice long knife, offset handle, slightly curved, just do a bit of polishing.

We got the 12" long orange version. It is a nice knife: long with an upwards offset handle with a slight "scimitar" or "tanto" curve to it, and a grippy handle. The serrations are large and sharp.Pros: It is a nice knife as above:+ The upward offset on the blade to the handle means you can actually get your fingers around the handle and grip it if you are cutting on a thin board or directly on a butcher block table or counter. Rather than just gripping the sides like a simple straight knife.+ The long blade makes it easy to use for cutting long V cuts in a baguette for say garlic bread. It is also long enough to reach the full width of a slice guide cutting board. The curve makes it easy to attack a hard spot in a crust without applying enough force overall to crush the loaf.+ The serrations are ground from one side on the right, so the sharp points are on the left. When using a slice guide you can center between the vertical guides of course, but also align to the right edge and you won't get any dust or shavings off of the guides from the points on the left.Other: Not Cons per se, but, well:. If I'd my 'druthers, I'd make the offset another quarter inch or 8mm taller. When cutting close to the surface I can't quite get my fingers all the way around the handle, just my fingertips. Having said that if you are using a thicker board and hanging off the edge or a cutting guide board with a built in crumb tray, there is plenty of clearance. Either way it is a vast improvement over a simple straight blade knife.. The blade is well trimmed, sharpened, ground and mostly finished. However my one gripe is that the top edges remained square and very sharp. I've been cut by these before so I'm particular about it. I took a small diamond disc on an electric fingernail drill and make a few quick passes at different bevel angles and rounded off those 90 degree angles. Then I used a very fine corundum (black grit) emery board to polish. It only took a few minutes and it now feels smooth and rounded. There are lots of other ways to do this equally easy.. The handle is plastic as befits the price point. Plastics can be lots better than they used to be, and I like the rubbery give and the dimpled texture; it makes it secure to grip. We'll see how long it lasts. I can always make a wood handle in a few years if necessary; have done so before...Photos:1. Branding printed on left side2. Serrated right side, handle connection3. Top edge before beveling and polish4. Top edge after that - note color/brightness line is wider at vertex5. It reaches across the slice guide board with enough teeth beyond to do the job.Bottom line: Nice knife after a bit of polishing attention to relieve top edges. Happy!

Super Comfortable and Effective Bread Knife

I had been waiting for quite some time to add a dedicated bread knife to my kitchen utensils when I discovered this Humbee12-Inch Offset Bread Knife.Upon receiving the knife, I was immediately impressed with the grippy polypropylene black handle. I place a HUGE amount of priority on making sure that whatever knife I own has a grip that inspires confidence, provides superior control and enhances safety while using the knife. The grip on this knife delivers on all three of these requirements and makes it a joy to use.Next, I was quite impressed with the serrated stainless steel “Width Wave” teeth. I really like the offset blade, as it provides ergonomic advantages such as providing clearance of your knuckles from contacting the cutting board as well as delivering better leverage when slicing through thick breads and sandwiches.I opted for the 12 inch blade to allow this knife to cover the widest range of cutting scenarios, but love it so much that I will also order a shorter blade version.Performance-wise, this knife makes cutting all kinds of breads easy, with no discernible drag, chipping or flying fragments. For the money, this has been a tremendous value , and a new indispensable tool for my kitchen. I would highly recommend this product.

Decent bread knife but handle isn't completely grippy/nonslip

This is a nice knife at a good price. It cuts like it should. I do wish I had gone with the 8" blade as the 10" blade is quite long for standard bread cutting. If you have very large bread like large rounds of sourdough, then the 10 or 12" lengths are probably perfect. The 3 star review is because of the handle. It shows a nonslip grip but the nonslip material is only molded into the underside/bottom of the handle. The entire handle is not grippy. The bulk of the handle is a very smooth and slick plastic. I expected the entire handle to be grippy, which it isn't and that's unfortunate.
