The second one I get
These type of "glass", makes such a great gift, its charred wood adds something of an experience on the drinking on its own, the size is just perfect for whiskey, and really appreciate that it comes with the rocks, makes such a difference for when you want to experience an expensive whiskey on its own. As I said this is my second one, but not because the first one got out of use quickly, it is actually pretty durable and resistant (I have only hand washed it though). Highly recommended.

Looks like a lovely gift but I want to know more about type of wood and finish for safety reasons
This is a really interesting whiskey and bourbon "glass". I had never considered drinking from a wooden "glass" before but now it makes total sense. If whiskey and bourbon are aged in oak barrels, this should be made of white oak, yes? That's what I would think but the seller's listing (or product page) only state it is "crafted from natural wood with clear grain patterns and a charred carbonization finish for the rustic appearance". Hmmm... I'm feeling less secure about what I'm about to drink out of. What kind of natural wood is used to make cups you can drink from? Are all wood types safe to drink from? Turns out the answer is, "NO", you cannot drink from just any type of wood. There are some wood products that leech toxins and are not food safe. Food grade wood products should not have any type of sealant on it and there are toxic sealants. What, exactly, is "a charred carbonization finish"? Is that a food safe finish? Is the finish actually a sealant merely labeled "charred carbonization finish"? How are we to know if the information isn't included?I think this is, at face value, a lovely gift to give someone or to receive. It's packaged well, looks like a quality product and feels like a "luxury" item with a rugged, handmade aesthetic. I would feel a lot more comfortable consuming beverages out of a cup if I knew what type of wood it was made from and whether the finish is a process of burning the inside of the cup or if it is a sealant that is applied and called "charred..". I would feel really secure if the product information included details pertaining to where the wood was grown and by whom, how it was sourced (was it ethically sourced?), whether it is a renewable resource and, most importantly, whether it is a type of wood that is considered FOOD SAFE.If I would have taken the time to consider all of the concerns I have prior ordering, I would not have ordered. Only after I received the product did I realize maybe I should know more about product safety and food safety of wood products. Take that for what its worth..
