Functional but Smelly and Rough Around the Edges

These burlap placemats are large and fairly thin. They are thick enough to act as basic chargers, but definitely thinner than a typical placemat.The biggest issue is the strong gasoline-like smell right out of the package. You absolutely need to wash them before use. I have not washed mine yet, so I cannot speak to how stiff or wrinkled they will be afterward, but I expect I will need to iron and possibly starch them to get them looking neat again.They are not fancy, but they are functional and have a rustic, natural look that would suit a farmhouse or picnic-style table. Think utility over style.On the other hand they are great starters for crafts projects.Overall, they get the job done, but the odor and finishing knock them down a bit.
