Great for price
Obviously, it’s not real Damascus steel… I don’t even think it’s real hammer welded steel… I’m pretty sure it’s just etched to be decorative… But that really doesn’t matter. It’s for bread…. And it does a very effective job against bread. My wife and I bake a lot of the ancient green bread, which is much different from the standard bread. People make with supermarket flour these days. The ancient grain stuff is very dense… This thing is big enough to cut the entire round loaf. I like the handle, the way it feels, and I especially like the fact that there is a little groove for your index finger to rest in just before the blade as well as a comfortable groove for your thumb to rest on in order to properly brace, the knife as you hold it and cut. A lot of people would probably wonder why you need a special knife to cut soft bread… But when you’ve spent hours baking an expensive loaf of einkorn, spelt, emmer, or Kamut, you will be super put off when you go to cut into it and destroy the shape because you’re having to push down with the knife… This bread knife eliminates that and looks very nice in the process. Is it the best bread knife in the world? No… Is it the best bread knife you’ll buy for $30?… Possibly.., I haven’t found a better one yet. And I’m not really willing to spend more than $30 on a knife of this purpose. So I’d say it’s probably the best bang for the buck.
