Simple design, no hinges, cuts with blades not wires. Very easy to clean and store.
There are several good features of the Jawbush egg slicer that separate it from just about every other slicer I have found on Amazon. First is the absence of any wires or hinged parts. Without a hinge, the cutting action is straight down on the egg (and the egg stays in place during the entire cut).Whereas, the hinged (what I call the "clam shell" design) typically uses wires that cut into the egg on an angle (which can push the egg out of the base or “cradle” during the cut).I returned a clam shell unit (made western Europe) where the hinged parts were so loose that the wires could strike the cradle and break or bend. I was VERY disappointed with that design and its purported quality (it was poor and got sent back within minutes of delivery). The Jawbush slicer is totally different: It uses separate parts that engage the egg manually where the cutting head is aligned by “ears” with slots on the cradle (see the pictures). By coming straight down on the egg, I cannot miss making a perfect cut. You can also take a look at the videos others have posted to see it in action.Clean up is very easy - I wash my dishes by hand and with a small brush provided with the product, cleaning takes just seconds in soapy water. Another thing - without the stress, and heat of a dish washer acting on the plastic and metal parts, washing by hand should make this thing last for years. Really a great little item.As far as storage - it could not be easier. I guess I was lucky because the egg slicer I received actually fits completely inside my microwave egg cooker - even with the lid in place (see pictures). So my egg slicer is always right there on the counter whenever eggs are being prepared in the cooker.BTW: Only the straight cutter is shown in my pictures (because that is the only cutter head I use) but it comes with a small cleaning brush and a total of three cutter heads that all function essentially the same way. BTW - the blades are sharp and can cut so I remain very careful when I handle this. Caution your kids if they want to help in the kitchen. You know, I believe there is a certain elegance in simplicity and could not be happier with this gadget. In fact as an engineer I doubt if there is a better designed egg slicer out there. I paid under $16 for this product (delivered) and I gladly recommend this product to anyone looking for a simple and easy to use egg slicer.Update: After several uses I wanted to share some learning points. First, this product continues to deliver excellent results but would suggest a change that would make it even better. A small amount of sliced egg remains in the cradle and on the blades. Normal washing takes care of it but the white of the egg is difficult to see on the (white) cradle so it makes you carefully search the spaces between each rib to make sure you clean up any residue. It does not simply rinse off so you need to see it, and address each piece left over.If the cradle were a different color (not yellow as the yolk would get lost) but maybe a green or blue color, any remaining residue would be far easier to see (and thus go after it) and clean it. Still a great product that deserves the original 5 stars I gave it.
