Fit perfectly in my 23qt presto electric canner
Great quality
I enjoy canning. When canning I feel like I am tied to the earth, somehow. I have always canned primarily jams, jellies, and the like, which only takes a water canning process. For low acid foods, which are what many vegetables are, as well as meats, etc. you have to invest in a pressure canner. And about 4 years ago, I did just that. What an eye opener!I went from a stance of fear over using pressure to a fair bit of confidence in one season: I had to, because there was a bumper crop that year. And I can honestly say I would have appreciated being able to “layer” the jars so that I could have canned even more. That is what these racks are for; but if you are looking at these, you already know that. So let’s get right to the nitty gritty. They are 11” in diameter, which fits easily in my canner, but are not too small. Just right.Their best feature is, hands down, that they are stainless steel. If you don’t know, ones made of aluminum tend to discolor after prolonged exposure to the steam. The company promises that these will never discolor, warp, chip, whatever. Which means if you give them standard care (and yes, they are even dishwasher safe) they will last probably beyond your own lifetime. They work beautifully not only in pressure canners, but in the water baths I described above; their design ensures your glass jars will remain “suspended” above the surface, which does two things: provides even flow of water and heat; and protects the glass from breaking due to too much heat.I have an aluminum rack; highly discolored, but still usable. But when I saw this set, at such a reasonable cost, I ordered it immediately. It is not canning season yet, but I will be using these a lot; if I have a problem, I will revisit this review and give the update. Otherwise, I feel very confident giving this set 5 stars.
If you do any amount of canning, these racks are one of those “why didn’t I buy these sooner?” purchases. They’re solid stainless steel, not flimsy or coated, and they feel sturdy right out of the box. I’ve used them in both boiling water and pressure canning, and they’ve held up beautifully with no warping or rusting. I also really appreciate that they’re bare stainless steel, so there’s nothing to peel, chip, or degrade over time. The perforated design actually makes a noticeable difference. Water and steam circulate evenly, jars stay lifted off the bottom of the pot, and everything feels safer and more consistent. No rattling jars or worrying about hot spots cracking glass.Having a set of three is incredibly useful. I typically use one on the bottom and one to stack a second layer of jars, while the third gets used constantly for other kitchen tasks like steaming vegetables or serving as a cooling rack. They stack neatly when not in use and don’t take up much storage space.Fit-wise, these racks fit perfectly in my 23-quart Presto Precise pressure canner with no shifting or issues. In my 12-quart Presto Precise, they don’t work as a bottom rack, but they do work well as a top rack specifically for stacking 4-oz jars, which is still very useful to me and something I was happy to discover.Cleanup is easy, which always matters after a long canning session. They rinse clean quickly and are fully dishwasher safe.Overall, these are durable, versatile, and genuinely useful canning racks. Simple, well-made, and absolutely worth having if you do any kind of canning, steaming, or batch cooking regularly.
We bought this to fit inside our Presto pressure cooker. It is a bit thinner than the brand name one that we bought straight from Presto, but it certainly will do the job but just fine. It is the exact same diameter. It is nice to have three of these so you can do lots of small jars all at once. In the photo I stuck it on top of the brand name one and it is the exact same diameter, as you can see. The pattern of the holes is slightly different but I don't think that affects performance.
Overall ImpressionThese racks are a straightforward, functional addition to a canning setup. They do exactly what they are designed to do without any unnecessary complexity.Material and BuildThe racks feel somewhat thin, almost like aluminum in weight and texture, despite being listed as stainless steel. However, they seem sturdy enough to support the weight of heavy glass jars without warping.Stacking FunctionalityThe perforated design is excellent for stacking. It allows you to create multiple layers of jars inside a tall pot or pressure canner, which is a huge time-saver when processing large batches of food.Heat DistributionThe holes are evenly spaced, which is important for ensuring that steam and boiling water circulate properly around the jars. This helps prevent jars from cracking due to direct contact with the bottom of the pot.VersatilityAt 11 inches in diameter, they fit well in most standard stockpots and pressure canners. Outside of canning, they also work well as basic steamer trays for vegetables or as cooling racks for baked goods.MaintenanceBecause they are flat and made of smooth metal, they are very easy to rinse off or toss into the dishwasher after a canning session.Final VerdictFor under nine dollars for a set of three, these are a good value. Even though they feel a bit lightweight, I have no complaints as they handle the job of stacking jars perfectly.
These are unbreakable and reliable racks. Fits perfectly in the bottom of my hot water bath canner. I wouldn't use them to stack jars in the canner in layers the way the pictures show because you want to let air escape the lid during the processing time and pressure from jars above could prevent that. I like that it evenly covers the entire bottom all the way across the middle so I can really snuggle jars in there. A breeze to clean. You can use them to steam on too, just grease them REALLY WELL or things will stick.
