A favorite thing
We purchased one for ourselves a while back. After our son paid $25 to have his knives sharpened, we ordered two more, one for each of our sons, as Christmas gifts. The family theme this year for giving is, “favorite things”. Enough said.

Wattlink Knife Sharpener - It does the job
I'm an avid cook, but I admit I don't take good care of my knives. I have two knife sharpeners, both of which require holding the sharpener in one hand and the knife in the other and make me wonder if I'm about to lose a finger. But this tabletop model came across my feed, and my favorite santoku is to the point where a honing steel isn't improving its performance at all. So it was time. The first thing I noticed about this sharpener is that the instructions are on the outside of the box. There's no insert. So if you want to keep the instructions around, you need to either keep the box, or cut out the side of it, or take a photo. There are 4 slots in the sharpener. Slot 1 is for scissors. Slots 2-4 are three steps in sharpening a knife, with decreasing intensity. You might not need to use all three, depending on how dull the knife is, but I definitely did.I started out following the instructions exactly: three passes through slot 2 in one direction with light pressure, five full back-and-forth strokes through slot 3 with no pressure, then three pulls through slot 4. I was appreciative of the hand grip on the other side of the sharpener, which helped keep it steady and my movements straight. Be aware that slot 2 is going to take off some tiny metal filings, so you might not want to do this on a food prep surface. (Anticipating this, I put down a sheet of parchment to catch them.)Then I cut an onion. The knife was performing better than before, but it still made that slight crunching sound that happens when your instrument isn't optimal. So I went through the sharpening steps again, this time repeating the slot 2 pulls until the knife felt smooth going through. Back to the onion, and this time the knife went through it like butter. The final test was on a pair of hair shears that I've had for about 20 years and are long past their razor-sharp stage. I tested them on a scrap piece of fabric, and they mostly chewed it up. After a few passes through the scissor slot, they cut the fabric cleanly. In conclusion: this sharpener works well, and is a good value for the money - not quite as good as a professional sharpening, but a whole lot cheaper. Just be aware that (a) if your knives are as bad as mine was, you might need to go through the steps more than once, and (b) if you want to save the instructions for later, don't throw away the box.

Attractive, effective and comfortable.
This is a pretty decent knife sharpener. For my carbon steel knives I will sharpen using the diamond number 3 first, then the ceramic number 4 to smooth. I sharpen in one direction (from back to front) 5-8 times and my knives will be perfectly sharp, quickly. The item looks nice too. Much less of an eye sore compared to my other sharpener. The handle is extremely useful too, and adds greatly to it's ease of use. Good value.
