Wow!
This was an unexpected surprise! The tamper distributor tool is weighty and very well built. I could have paid more for a name brand, but frankly, this tool is outstanding! Highly recommended.

This was an unexpected surprise! The tamper distributor tool is weighty and very well built. I could have paid more for a name brand, but frankly, this tool is outstanding! Highly recommended.
I know it's been said before in the reviews, but good lord this really is heavy. Solid like the core of a comet. Some fine grounds can get stuck with either side extended for lower-surface dials from the portafilter's rim. But it's nothing to me, i just tap it on box (trash, mat, w/e) and it promptly puffs off. I've used this as my main, & by far my most important, dial-in tool for about 2 months now? It really hasn't developed any scratches pr abrasions, and nothing sticks. Still! Not to mention, its sexy AF.
I am conflicted about this tamper. I have a new Breville Espresso machine and have been frustrated with it (if you know you know). Ordered this based on reviews hoping to solve my quirky shots. It is smooth and solid, very pleasing. The conflict is that it leaves more grounds than the Breville tools included with the machine. Meaning the portafilter is much fuller than if you tamp and use the tool to scrape the level. I currently am just not sure.
I got this to replace a standard tamper with handle because I wasn't able to push grounds down evenly into the portafilter. This one is perfect for my 54mm portafilter. The side that levels the grounds produces an even surface, and the weight plus the low profile of the tamper makes it easy to compact the grounds with minimal force and no messiness.
The distributor is definitely 5 start. The tamper doesn't go deep enough to effectively tamp. I would still purchase this again just for the distributor though!
Prior to this purchase, I’d never used a coffee distributor. I never knew I NEEDED a coffee distributor. Well, now I know. The thing that drew me in first with this particular distributor, was, yes, its appearance. It’s both mirror shiny, and brushed stainless steel, with a beautiful grip machined into the edges of the portion you turn, and it looks like nothing but business. It’s simply beautiful. I realize appearance doesn’t affect performance with this particular item, but it sure makes it a joy to use!Never having owned one of these before, I was surprised by the weight in hand. It just FEELS fantastic! Just the right weight, for you to believe those grounds are going to be settled perfectly into the portafilter, ready for tamping. The performance- the adjustable distributor makes sure the coffee is going to be leveled to exactly where you need it, and it does the leveling, flawlessly. The first time I used this I believe there was an audible gasp of joy when I peered down at the portafilter! The only improvement I can even suggest for this tool- an optional monogram on the shiny top. I’m not sure how many people are going to use that portion of the tool for tamping- but if it was optional, those who would like to use it for this purpose don’t need to have it monogrammed. Those of us already in possession of a fabulous tamper- can go on ahead and further fancy pantsy up, this glorious tool. The coffee/espresso coming from my Breville Barista Pro was already wonderful, but this tool along with a WDT tool, a tamper and a screen -have brought it completely over the top.My son suggested (and we did) a side by side comparison of two cups of coffee, one prepped ‘tired Mom’ style- jam portafilter with collar in place beneath grinder, spill a few shakes of the grounds on countertop when removing, jam portafilter sans collar in place for brewing with zero further prep, collapse with forehead in palm, elbow on counter, slightly slack jawed whilst waiting for the liquid savior to arrive, VERSUS- grinding with collar in place, thorough stir with WDT tool, remove collar, apply distributor, tamp, lay screen on surface of grounds- HEAVEN.IS part of that joy, the feeling following any enjoyable ritual? Perhaps. But there was absolutely, positively, a noticeable difference in the two cups of coffee. The tired Mom cup- couldn’t compete.Ten stars for this tool!!!
