I love this funnel. Because it is not a lot wider at the top you wouldn’t think this could help much but it does. I love the magnetic connection too. This device makes “pouring” my espresso grounds into my portafilter so much easier.
This is such a stunning portafilter ring. The first thing one notices when taking it out of the package is how well-made and beautiful this ring is. It has a wooden outer layer that just makes the whole experience feel posh. VF in general makes phenomenally beautiful items. I also have their tamper, and I just can’t stop looking at both of them. They both come in beautiful black boxes, so they would make a great gift.This ring is exceptionally well crafted. It is exactly 54mm, and it has six magnets on the bottom. Because of the wooden material on top, I probably wouldn’t submerge it in water; I will just wipe it clean.That said, here is a warning: the description says it fits most standard portafilters—that’s true. What you should know is that it won't work with all models of grinders. Mine is the Breville Dose, and the portafilter is positioned inside the holder via three top lugs. Top lugs mean you can't place anything on the rim, or else the portafilter won't stay up. And this is precisely what happens with Breville grinders—with this ring on, you cannot use the grinder's grouphead holder. I resorted to placing the portafilter on the bottom of the grinder, and it worked, though keep in mind that my portafilter is naked-bottom and lays flat. If yours has spouts, this method won't work for you. In that case, make sure you use a grinder that supports the portafilter from the bottom rather than the top. I am taking one star off for the lack of such a mention on the product's page - perhaps the seller ought to add that to the description.Given the ring’s structural incompatibility with my grinder, will I be using it? Yes! And here is why. I got it to replace my old portafilter grinding twist-and-lock extension that is designed to mimic the portafilter’s lugs and fit in the holder. Although it works with my grinder position-wise, there is no sealing mechanism, and it lets out quite a bit of ground coffee, which ends up sitting on the rim rather than inside the basket. I grew tired of sweeping those escaped coffee grounds, plus it’s just wasteful. There is no such problem with this ring—it seals perfectly, and there is no micro-gap between the basket and the ring. The result is a clean basket with all the grounds inside. Plus, I’ve figured out how to remove the holder and place the portafilter directly under the spout on the bottom of the grinder.For me, this ring is a worthy investment. If you think of getting it, make sure to verify the design of your grinder and where it supports the portafilter. If everything fits, you will be pleased and delighted with this ring.

This dosing funnel fits my Breville Bambino Plus portafilter and stays in place well with magnets, even when I turn it upside down. It does help keep the grounds from spilling over, but what surprised me and makes it of very limited usefulness is that it is too narrow inside to allow me to tamp the grounds. If I could tamp and then remove the funnel, it would keep everything neat and tidy, but since I need to remove the funnel first, the grounds go all over once I place the tamper on top. I try to push the grounds down with the scoop as I add them to help keep it neat, but if I’m doing that anyway, I might as well just skip the funnel and do it as I always have. If they could make it larger on the inner ring, so a tamper could fit, this would be a great product.

After regular use, it still looks good and hasn’t shown any wear or loosening.In daily use, it helps keep the counter cleaner and makes puck prep smoother overall. It is very easy to use. The only thing to keep in mind is that it does need to be removed before tamping, which is expected but worth noting if you’re new to using a funnel.Overall, it works exactly as intended, fits well, looks nice on the machine, and feels like a quality accessory for a home espresso setup.
Overall, this ring is a fantastic addition to my coffee setup. The build quality is excellent, with a sleek black aluminum alloy and beautiful walnut wood design that feels premium and durable. It fits my Breville portafilter perfectly and makes distributing grounds much cleaner and easier. The only minor retraction keeping this from a perfect five stars is that the magnets could be stronger; they attach securely enough for normal use, but sometimes shift slightly if I'm not careful. Highly recommended for the price!
