Large capacity and great design
I'm always trying to drink more water, which means having water bottles in multiple rooms in the house. Sometimes, though, you need a bigger bottle - whether it's staying hydrated overnight or leaving the house for an extended period of time. This bottle holds a full half gallon of liquid, enough to quench thirst for a few hours.I have another very large water bottle which is proportioned like a smaller one, meaning that it's very long. This one is squat and wide, shaped more like a thermos than a standard water bottle. That's actually a great design choice, because the center of gravity is low and it doesn't tip over. It doesn't fit in my car's cup holders, but if I set it on the floor, it stays there even through sharp turns. (It's also short enough to fit inside the water dispenser in my fridge door, which makes it very convenient to keep full.) The handle, which is attached to the lid, is bolted on well and comfortable to carry, even when the bottle is full and heavy; it folds out of the way for drinking or pouring. There's a smaller cap on the lid to drink out of, and this cap is not attached to the bottle at all, but there's a magnetic hollow in the lid to snap the cap to. The magnetic bond is strong, so if you can remember to put the cap there every time you open it, it's not likely to get lost.I tested the insulating properties of this jug. I put cold water into it (without ice), allowed the temperature to equilibrate, and measured the water at 49 degrees F. Four hours later, the temperature was 51. Putting ice in the liquid would allow it to stay colder for even longer. Then I did the same with hot water: the initial measurement was 192 degrees, and then four hours later it was 146. So while this isn't perfect at keeping liquids at temperature, it's certainly good enough to keep your coffee or lemonade at a good drinking temperature for a few hours. When full of either hot or cold liquid and properly sealed, the bottle did not leak at all when turned upside down.Drinking out of this jug is a two-hand job, but it's surprisingly comfortable and not prone to dribbling. Pouring out of it is smooth. I filled it with hot tea for a get-together with friends, and everyone's cup stayed full. This is a good quality bottle, and the price isn't outrageous for something this big. If you have a need for keeping liquids hot or cold for long periods, I recommend it.
