Great bargain, quality tools

I have just been getting into the espresso hobby and needed a set of tools. I was very, very pleasantly surprised when I opened this set and discovered that it had given me almost everything I needed. You get a quality tamper that is spring-loaded and allows you to adjust the pressure and depth of the tamping. It also puts a nice ridged pattern into the puck. The WDT tool works well to break up any lumps in the grounds, and the distributor does a great job evening out the grounds before tamping. My only complaint about the WDT tool is that you have to unscrew it out of its little case, which is a pain and not always easy to do if you're holding a portafilter full of coffee grounds in the other hand. The dosing funnel is useful but I can't figure out how to use it with my coffee grinder, so I end up spilling coffee trying to put it on the portafilter after I've ground the coffee. There's also a puck screen and a little magnet to pick it up out of the basket after brewing, but the magnet is not really strong enough to do much when the puck is wet. All in all, though, this is a very complete set with tools that can be much more expensive from other suppliers. I got very lucky with this find!

Funnel doesn’t fit. High quality though.

Only downside is my funnel doesn’t fit in my portafilter when all other items do. The funnel is a noticeably slightly bigger diameter than the tamper and other parts. Almost a perfect kit. Impressed as the heavy and high quality feel of all of the parts. The rest of the parts are good enough I don’t want to send everything back.

Everything is metal! And the metal is heavy!

I got this espresso making tool set because the description said that everything was made out of 304 stainless steel. Wow everything I thought would have been plastic is actually metal. There is no plastic in this set at all. I was pleasantly surprised by how heavy each piece was. You look at it and you think that it’s going to be really lightweight but then you pick it up in your groggy coffee-depleted haze and become pleasantly surprised to have to use more muscle to pick up these things.The WDT tool has grooves on the outside, so it’s easy to screw and unscrew the cap. There’s also a coffee dust trap at the bottom of the WDT tool I thought that was pretty cool. It means you can unscrew the bottom of the WDT tool and dump out all of the coffee dust that might’ve got stuck inside. For those barista’s, who want absolutely no contamination between stale and fresh grinds, this is the WDT tool for you. The acupuncture needles were securely fastened and springy. I didn’t notice much difference between this one and the one I already have. They function exactly the same, but the one I already had was more expensive…The dosing ring has four magnets, which is fewer than the ones I’ve seen on other dosing rings. However, I think this is a good thing because it’s for magnets that are strong enough to stay on the portafilter, but it can release its magnetic grip easily so that you don’t end up spilling coffee grounds everywhere. This dosing ring is also metal. I’m pretty sure this set is brand new. But on my dosing ring, I do see a little specs which looks like they might be water stains or maybe stain stains or metal stains? I’m not sure if this matters or not, since the dosing ring will usually remain dry. But it is stated to be stainless steel although it’s not stamped on the metal itself. The dosing ring was probably my least favorite in this set, probably because of the number of magnets and also because of the stains. I did like that it was completely metal.Onto the twist leveler. This tool was the heaviest of them all except maybe the spring loaded tamper. This tool comes apart into three pieces. At first there was a blue plastic tape piece that was screwed into the leveler, and I wasn’t sure how to remove it. So make sure to twist this leveler open to remove that blue plastic. You would have to remove the dosing ring to use this leveler on the portafilter. So I think it’s best to use this over the kitchen sink to prevent a mess! This tool felt like very high-quality and I never thought I would want to use one but now I don’t think I can go back.Onto the spring loaded tamper. This requires quite a lot of force to engage the springs. I think that’s a good thing. You have to be careful to push down the tamper straight down. It’s easiest on a kitchen towel, or on one of those silicone espresso prep mats. This tool has a lot of chrome metal on it. It’s really high-quality and doesn’t have any sharp edges.Next in the process, the puck screen. This one looks pretty plain with no design on it. This puck screen is thin as expected, and there is a little bit of a flex to it. There are two places where there are indentations along the edge where it’s not that smooth. It looks like it might have been from where the machine was holding the puck screen during manufacturing or something. But no worries because…This kit contains a little magnetic screen remover! This I haven’t seen before, and I think it’s pretty clever. Theoretically, you never have to touch the edge of the puck screen. That being said, the magnet is not that strong, and I think that may be by design. It’s not like one of those neodymium magnets.Well there you have it, a pretty complete espresso prep tool kit. It’s trendy black metal and stainless steel off with a chrome finish. At this price, it is a good value compared to buying each one of these pieces individually. I would love to see different iterations with wood finishes too.

High quality espresso tools with magnetic features.

This is a very nice well made set of 51mm espresso tools. The grounds Distributor and Tamper are very heavy weight and feel good in the hand. Everything is sized properly and perfectly fits both of my 51mm portafilters. I already had a plastic grounds funnel that sits on top of the portafilters but the funnel that comes with this set is aluminum and has magnets built in flush with the bottom so it not only fits perfectly it stays on the portafilter magnetically until you take it off which is a great idea and not only helps to keep the mess down, it adds stability and function to the funnel. Another innovative feature is the puck screen. It is also magnetic and comes with a small magnetic puck remover. If you use a screen to help keep the brew head clean, being able to just pull off the screen from the grounds puck with the magnetic remover is a game changer in my opinion. I also had one of these, but it is not magnetic and this magnetic one makes taking the puck screen off of the puck a simple no mess solution. If you bought all these items individually it would cost far more that this set, so this is a great value and the set has everything you need. It doesn't just have everything you need, the pieces are high quality with the innovative magnetic features make using these items a pleasure.
