Kimbap and onigiri mold

It's very easy to use, and the quality is great. It keeps the triangle shape just make sure to put enough rice into the mold before pressing. The design is good and you can make 6 onigini all at once.

Not silicone based, but still effective

As long as you don’t try to over cram each section it will work fine. But have to use a little bit of shock/slam to get them to come out.

Easy to use, works great

These onigiri rice molds are a fun activity and they also work really well. Since these came with only Japanese wording on the box, I went online and looked up how to use rice molds. One tip I found is to use freshly cooked short-grain rice for the best results, but I already had some plain long-grain rice cooked and in the fridge; I warmed that up in the microwave and it worked great, so don't think you need to go buy special rice or make a fresh pot of rice. The concept is simple, just fill the molds with warm rice (sort of overfill them) and use the top presser piece to press the rice down and pack it into the mold. Remove the presser piece, flip the mold upside down over a plate, and voila, that's it. Another hint I found online is to dampen the molds with water to help them release the molded onigiri pieces, but I forgot to do that and my little rice triangles fell right out. It was very easy for me to have success with these molds, even as a beginner who didn't have all the right stuff or follow the proper advice.I am snowed in this weekend and didn't have anything on hand to dress up my onigiri, nor could I go to the store, so I used sriracha sauce to make some faces and decorations. I'm sure if you use your creativity you can think of other ways to decorate your onigiri and add extra flavor to your rice. You could use sesame seeds, crumbled French-fried onions, different types of sauces and mayos, peas or pieces of corn, etc. It's cool that this kit is basically two sets of molds in one, and they snap together for portability. I also like that you can make six pieces at once. The molds came in a cool box with Japanese writing on, which gives the product authenticity and will make Japanophiles happy. It also came with a bonus little spoon and fork. And the molds clean up easily in the dishwasher (I have only put them on the top rack).Overall, this set is so easy to use and it works great. It's a fun kitchen project for kids and adults alike.

Perfect Shape Every Time!

This kit comes with the onigiri mold as well as a small fork and spoon. The only thing missing (and this may just be my preference) is a paper with instructions on how to use the mold that would fit inside the kit.The instructions on the box are only in Japanese, so you may need to look up how to use this if you don't know how to use one already. That being said, you can infer how to use the mold based off the visuals alone. There is no line showing you how much to put in the mold, so that will take some time to learn. You only need a moderate amount of force to press down the cover to solidify the shape. For the best shape (in my opinion), fill lightly to a little under the edge of the mold, put the press in, and lock the mold closed for about 5 minutes. You can decide if you want to add the nori either in the mold itself or after removing it from the mold, whichever works best for you. Personally, I like adding the nori after removing it from the mold, as the nori tends to bunch up when placed in the mold during the pressing process. If you line the mold with plastic wrap, it does make removing the onigiri from the mold and cleaning up easier since the food was not in contact with the mold itself. If you choose not to use plastic wrap, you just need to go around the edges with a knife and flip the mold upside down to remove them. The material is made of pressed polypropylene, so if you are washing this in the dishwasher, make sure you put it on the top rack and let it air dry.

Steer Clear

photos are misleading. Tiny triangles, crappy design, rice doesn't want to release. Shop for an open mold. Steer clear.

Evenly sized Onigiri. Unmolding is a bit difficult.

I received this Onigiri Mold for free as part of the Amazon Vine program.Onigiri are filled rice cakes in a triangle shape that are filled with delicious things like spiced tuna, pickled plum or whatever else you can think of. It's easy enough to shape the triangles by hand, but mine were never the same size or thickness. These molds help with that.I put half of my rice in the mold, press it against the walls of the mold, add my filling and add the rest of my rice, again pressing everything into the mold. Then the lid goes on and I can close my mold and put everything in the fridge for a few hours. These don't unmold as easily as silicone molds. I have to run a knife around the edges of each mold to pop the rice out. The Onigiri hold their shape well, but the difficult unmolding still bugs me.The Mold is dishwasher safe as are the included spoon and fork. The spoon works perfectly to get the correct amount of filling on the rice and the fork helps flake grilled salmon for filling.Overall this is a helpful tool for my kitchen and I have no problem with the price compared to other molds.
