Make a large ice cube which fits my 5 gals water cooler
Works well and ice slides out easily but did not come with a lid
Makes big ice cubes for ice bathes and coolers!
We've got some outside cats, so during the summertime, it's always a bit of a pain keeping their water cold. One thing we settled on for a while was to fill some Hawaiian Punch jugs with water, freeze them, and let them set out in the morning so that at midday they'd be melted enough to add to their water bowls. Buying ice bags got way too costly too quick, and freezing them is a pain. This is a great solution to that, with a caveat. I'll instead be freezing the mold half full, because otherwise they'll be too full.Anyways, that's all to say that freezing large chunks of ice and getting them out is really easy. It's just as smooth as those silicone cupcake molds. I didn't even have to let it set out for a while in order to get the ice chunk out. My two gripes are that the claim of the "steel reinforced rim" is nonsense; there's no steel in there (it does flex some as you're carrying it to the freezer). Secondly, the lid doesn't fit all that well, so it can lead to some frost in your freezer. Otherwise, as far as making big ol' chunks of ice, it's really great at it.
I got this for ice baths but it can be used for punch bowls or for your pets in the summer (to gnaw on or just lick). They are very large and easy to get the ice out once frozen. Depending on how full you fill it, and/or how steady you are on your feet, using a tray underneath when carrying to the freezer is a good idea to contain spillage. The lid is nice to keep it clean if using for people use. The silicone is flexible for sure, but sturdy enough to carry when full, and should be quite durable to use for years.
I recently decided to start doing a few ice baths each week. The benefits are supposed to be great and it couldn’t hurt, right? This silicone mold makes a nice solid block of ice that melts. For my bath tub at home, I like to use two. These take a solid 10-14 hours to solidify in my freezer and they melt after about 20 minutes. So they work quite well for cold plunges. A few of these works for me (for now) but I’m sure that I’ll need another one as I progress with cold plunges.I like that it has a lid and that the ice easily comes away from the mold. Super easy to pop them out.
