Don't try cutting the bread loaf on it's side. The support will break.
Don't try cutting your bread on it's side. The support will break. If your knife has a flat side and a scalloped side, hold the scalloped side against the guide or it may cut into wooden guide. This is well designed. This is the only one I've seen that has a slot for your knife to drop into so you can cut through the crust easier.

My Acacia Wood Bread Slicer review
I bought this because I started making my own sourdough bread and my family would cut uneven sourdough bread slices and I got tired of lopsided loafs. My thoughts about this Acacia Wood Bread Slicer:1) Assembly: I found setup a little confusing at first because you need to line up the side racks with the grooves in the bottom. The different shades of wood color make also made it harder, for me, to visually line up the side racks with the bottom board.Note: I added red & green dots on the side of the side racks with grooves and bottom of the board, so I can line them up for easier assembly.2) Cutting: My bread knife in the Wüsthof knife set is only 8 inches long. This made it a little harder to cut the 10 inch loaf. I had to place the bread on its side, which made it a little difficult to cut because the end of the loaf was sticking up over the side rack guides. I do plan on buying the "America’s Test Kitchen" recommended bread knife: Mercer Culinary Millennia 10-Inch Bread Knife. I think that the longer knife will make cutting my bread a little easier.3) Storage: You can not fit all the 3 pieces in the wood box. It is large, approximately: 14 in. x 13 in x 3.5 in, without the slicer guides inserted. I do not leave it on my countertop because my counter top space is limited.4) Cleaning: When cutting the bread, the breadcrumbs get everywhere: on the table where I am cutting, inside the wooden box, on the cutting grove bottom, all over. But it is easy to just dump the crumbs in the sink and wipe up the breadcrumbs from my table. I guess you could use the brush they give you to clean up the crumbs, but it's a little small. The brush looks like a cheap paint brush you can buy from Home Depot.5) Quality: This seems really well-made. It looks quite beautiful, but only after using this wooden bread slicer 3 times, the bottom rack split. I guess I could use wood glue to fix it, but I was hoping that it would last longer before breaking. Also, the wood slicing slots get scratched by your knife when cutting. While this is not an issue, it does take away from the aesthetics of the Acacia Wood Bread Slicer.6) Value: There are other bread slicers out there and some are made of plastic, while others are made of bamboo, some are cheaper some more expensive. Considering all the aspects above, this seems to be priced on the high side but well-made except for the crack/split in wood in my unit.NOTE: I am NOT a vine customer. I did NOT receive this item to review it.

Arrived broken and unusable
Can’t give 0 stars. It’s too FOREVER to get here but then it arrived broken and unusable. It is priced way too high to be this fragile. So angry as I could have gotten a better one at a fraction of the cost and it would’ve arrived sooner. The only reason I went with this was because all of my other kitchen utensils and bread box are acacia and I wanted to keep the theme going. Epic fail.

OPEN IT FIRST BEFORE GIFTING?
I GAVE THIS BEAUTIFUL ACACIA WOOD BREAD SLICER AS A GIFT. HE LOVED IT. UNFORTUNATELY ONE OF THE SLICE BOARDS WAS BROKEN IN HALF. BUMMER. HE DID NOT WANT TO RETURN IT. HE SAID HE COULD JUST PUT THE 2 BROKEN PIECES TOGETHER TO WORK. MAYBE EVEN GLUE IT. I WOULD HAVE LOVED IT MORE IF IT WAS NOT EMBARRASSINGLY BROKEN, BUT HIS BIRTHDAY WAS SEEMINGLY UNSCATHED.

Bread slices evenly and easily and condiments on a pretty board.
This review is for the acacia wood bread slicer for homemade bread. This bread slicer and board is a very clever design. It was a bit larger overall than I expected but I really like how solid and well made it is. The slicing spaces are just right for great thickness of bread for sandwiches or any other use you may have for bread. The board that slides out is so convenient. You can set your sliced bread on it or place various items on it to have a charcuterie board right next to your bread. This item stores well and is easy to clean up for the next use.
