This cake stand is doing the absolute most. It wants to be a cake stand, a charcuterie board, and a multipurpose serving platform, all depending on how you rearrange the pieces. Conceptually, that’s clever. In practice, it maybe tries just a little too hard. The main downside of the transformability is that the part that looks nice when it’s a charcuterie board becomes the part that scrapes along the table when it’s acting as the base of the cake stand. That means the “presentation” surface and the “abuse” surface are the same thing, just at different times. Not ideal. There’s also a magnet involved that holds the stand together, and it’s just slightly too weak. The result is a mild wobble. Not catastrophic, not unsafe, but noticeable enough that you’re aware of it when placing or cutting the cake. All that said, it is very well made. The materials feel solid, the finish is nice, and it comes with a handful of accessories that are probably unnecessary and will end up being given away. Most importantly, it made my cake look really pretty, which is kind of the whole point. So yes, it’s a bit overdesigned and has some self-inflicted flaws. But it’s attractive, functional enough, and does its main job well. I’m mildly annoyed by it and still glad I bought it, which feels like a fair summary.
Vary attractive piece, easy to assemble and versatile in function, but…Quality:To begin it is a solid wood base (no veneer) but it’s not as heavy at it appears. Did a quick search and learned that “Acacia” wood is a very broad term with some 1000 varieties falling under the species with some as dense as oak and others nearing pine… this seems to lean closer to the pine side of the spectrum as the 12” base weighs less than 1 pound (20oz including the turned base). This isn’t a ding against the manufacturer, just a physical observation as my acacia cutting board is very dense and weights in at almost 8 lbs.the quality of finish (smoothness) leaves a lot to be desired as the circumstanced grooves and base lack any sanded surface (1star loss). Can’t speak to the food safety of the stain used, but there is a distinct chemical smell present so I’d avoid direct food contact until it’s been washed a few times to ensue it’s fully cured and any residue is gone. The small dual purpose (bowl/base) is also turned from a single piece of wood making for a very attractive presentation. However, as others have noted the small magnet that holds it fast to the serving plate is small and allows the whole assembly to wobble in cake serving configuration making it feel unstable (1star loss). The domed cover is acrylic (not glass as someone else said) so it’s durable and lighter in weight. As mentioned previously the overall base is over 12” but the working base (under the dome will accommodate serving plates up to 11 inches. The included accessories are very cheap, don't match in color or materials and aren’t even worth mentioning.Summary, even with the design, quality issues it’s a handsome, solid wood, dual purpose server that appears to be a fair price for value to money.
Very nice cake stand, and I love that you can flip it over for an instant charcuterie tray. It looks nice, but I would definitely have made the cover glass instead of plastic, and it needs to be taller to fit a frosted cake. This would work better for pies and tarts with such a shallow lid.
This is super cute and seems pretty well made. It is a plastic lid for those who are concerned about glass breaking. It can either be a stand as shown, or the little bottom turns upside down and becomes a dip bowl or for a serving tray. It is really nice looking and everything I wanted. My only complained is the base is a magnet and it is not especially strong. It does come off easily and with kids leaning on it over cupcakes, it does cause the stand to fall over and the base to disconnect. I like the idea of the magnet because it spins, but it just needed to be a lot stronger.
This is a solid value since you're getting a double-use item in one purchase. It works as a cake stand with the dome on, but flip the base over and it becomes a flat board perfect for charcuterie or cheese. The rounded pedestal becomes a cup for jams, olives, sauces, or holding utensils, which is a really nice and useful touch. The pedestal is also removable, attaching with a strong magnet embedded into the base. It stays securely in place but comes off cleanly for storage or when just a flat surface is needed. The cover is plastic rather than glass. I wasn't sure about that at first, but it's very sturdy and seems decently scratch-resistant with some care. The acacia wood has a nice warm finish, and the clear dome keeps everything fresh without blocking the view. The set includes six small forks, a knife, and a serving piece...so everything needed to make entertaining easy comes included without requiring a bunch of separate purchases. For the versatility and what you're getting, this handles both formal and casual situations well. It's become one of those things I reach for whenever we have people over because it makes even simple stuff look fancy.
