I have both versions and the horizontal tray is better because the towels are easier to take out. The vertical version is nice and saves a bit of space, but the towels are difficult to remove without taking more than one or getting the others wet. Now they are in the bathroom trying to stuff the extra napkins back in, or worst, throwing the extras away. When they lay in the flat tray, guests can easily take the top napkin.
I’m so happy with this purchase. Bought it to use in the guest bathroom & has held up well. Thick material that doesn’t break when dropped & easy to clean. It also has little grippy parts on the bottom so it doesn’t slide which I love

I know what this was intended for, but I use it in my closet to hold the packets for gravy mixes, and it works well. The quality is strong, it's clear so I can see the packets and the price was good.
