We have an older.....to put it romantically....."farmhouse". It's not romantic. It was for sure on a very large farm but it isn't close to what you envision! LOL! Anywho, everything is crooked, leaning, not square, has gaps, needs duct tape or more caulking!The kitchen was no exception. My incredible fiance remodeled one room every time I traveled to take care of my Mom who was sick at the time. The kitchen was a huge challenge because everything was pieced together and it was tough to make it close to even. The original counter was a big homemade job and it was sturdy so he used that as a base. Except that the top was just a generic wood and wasn't really conducive to a real kitchen counter. Laminating or something other would not have been cost effective and, again, everything isn't even or has dents and bumps. I looked and looked. I gave up and then started looking some more. I came across these and was completely skeptical, BUT the fact that it came in a roll, is a huge size, and I could cut it to fit was the kicker! NOT DISAPPOINTED!!! It is just a tad thinner than I would like but it's sufficient. It cleans easily and even though I haven't tested it to the point of putting a hot pan on it, I am comfortable that if the pot slide off the potholder and onto it that it would all be good! There was no lingering smell when it first arrived. It came well packaged. If you are looking to cover a counter, sideboard or something other (I used a cut strip of it on the back edge of the freestanding sideboard cabinet to put the container of dog treats, was warmer, etc.) this is the thing to buy!

It can discolor from dirty pot bottoms overtime time but not objectionable.
This is the best of the silicone sheets. First vendor folded the sheet and creases had set into the sheet. I had ordered this one before but had not realized how different they can be.This is being used as a cover for a new induction cooktop to help lessen the impact of the black glass and kill the glare off the glass. These particular matts are matte on both sides with very slight dot pattern on one side to resist slipping and holding any moisture. This also maintains an even transient nature over the entire surface. With the previous sheet that was glossy when placed face down showed all the contact pressure points. Think Etch-A-Sketch!Love this one on both my home induction top and now this one.
