easy to do sharpening
I will say this is a decent sharpener, not the best I've had but for the price it's pretty good. It doesn't include very good instructions so I had to look on the website for more in-depth directions. Sharpens a variety of tools and blades which is nice.
This has a serious lack of instructions -- there are more instructions in this product listing than come with the device. The end I assume people will use the most has a center piece that can pivot from one side to the other depending on what you are going to sharpen. Tip to remember: The bypass side is for items like scissors as when you use them the blade edges "bypass" each other. Some of the pictures in the listing are maybe not great, either. A flat 2D arrow drawn on top of a picture can be hard to interpret. I found the device confusing, so instead got an automatic sharpener that was so bad it dulled knives, so I came back to this and put in the time to figure it out. I'd say if you already have a foundation this is a good device, or if you are willing to put in some time and practice - but if you just need to sharpen a kitchen knife once every few months without any extra work it might not be the best choice.
What a great little tool. Got this for my husband so he can sharpen his blades and be absolutely loved it. It works great
Very easy to use simple directions works great
I ordered this all in one garden sharpener to use on my garden pruners, hedge trimmer and lawnmower blade. Though I have not tested on the lawnmower blade, I have had decent results sharpening up garden bypass pruners and various kitchen knives. There is a bit of a learning curve as there are no directions in the box and the box itself only has directions for sharpening up bypass pruners. Even though the product’s website description does help out on how to use in more detail, there really needs to be good directions included as it’s a bit unintuitive on how to sharpen different tools. It’s not the best quality sharpener out there, but it’s nice to have the all in one capability at an affordable price point.
When I first looked at this tool sharpener, I was not impressed. A huge problem I discovered is the extremely poor directions in how to use this sharpener correctly. Their directions are in a few pictures on the outside of the box. (Inadequate) After a person understands how this sharpener is used, and how unique it is, they can appreciate more fully what a useful tool this is. One thing unusual and a little annoying is that the sharpener blade in the front tip pivots. All of the other sharpeners I have have a fixed angle that does not move. With this pivoting feature, you have to have a firm, straight, controlled scrape accross the blade. Not only can it sharpen knives, and scissors, but serrated knives. This sharpener has characteristics by their design not found in other sharpeners. Because of their unique design, and once one knows how to use this tool, it is very easy to restore a blade’s cutting edge. I also strongly disagree with some of their pictures in their product description of how to sharpen tools. A few swipes of this tool the wrong way can create a huge problem to blade edge sharpness. I never had a dad who spent the time teaching me mechanical things so I had to learn on my own. I am not an expert. My intention is not to insult anyone. (I am a retired elementary teacher.). So think of this set of instructions as an elderly grandpa talking to you.To sharpen a blade, one MUST have a correct angle and a steady, even stroke! I have provided three pictures to help overcome this problem using my well used, dull Fiskars pruners as an example. In the second picture you will see at the tip of this tool are two pictures of how the blade face mates to the cutter blade. In picture one there is a flat edge of plastic to help keep the blade at a proper angle. Notice that a portion of the jaws goes through the hole in this tool. I am holding my pruners awkwardly so I can take this picture. In picture two you will see this tool comes with a tray that has tips for sharpening serrated blades. I would never use this to sharpen a chainsaw blade as a product description picture shows. The tip of this tool will accept chainsaw sharpening bits that I use with this tool to get a proper flat edge to my pruners. These bits are easily found on Amazon and come in about three different sizes. You can see one mounted in the tip in picture three. This tool comes with a small, flat file to help take the burs off after getting a fresh blade edge.Once I discovered how to use this sharpening tool and how resourceful the design is, this became a tool I will be giving to my adult children. This has a unique design that makes it easy to get a sharp edge quickly. Because of this design, one can easily get a uniform angle to a blade edge. As for my Fiskars, they are back in commission. This is an inexpensive sharpening tool that would be handy and appreciated. It is no fun trying to cut vegetables or branches with dull blades. Work smarter not harder using this tool.
