FINALLY - a dough hook that works well for my Artisan mixer!
This is my third attempt to purchase a replacement for my original dough hook which had started chipping and therefore was no longer hygienic to use in preparing dough. First I tried a corkscrew type which worked well but blew out the motor of the mixer. After a $300 repair, I tried one that looked like the original but with a larger flat disk in chrome. It wasn't large enough to reach the dough in the bottom and sides of the bowl. This one's larger disk and heavier weight have been commented on by others, so I will say that FINALLY I have a dough hook that mixes the full bowl of dough quickly and completely. Save yourself some trouble and just get this one to start with!

Definitely an upgrade
I had lost my attachments for my mixer during a move. I had ordered this because it was compatible with my machine not knowing that it was going to be better than what I had. This dough hook has weight to it and feels more solid than what I had had. The dough hook attachment beautifully to my Kitchen Aid. It is larger and I love that it is made of stainless steel. This made bread making more of a breeze than what I had before. Dough stays where it should, it definitely is true to what it says, anti climb and it combines it more efficiently. Cleaning is a breeze, no TLC is needed for this dough hook, you can clean it any ways you please. It is well worth the price and I was glad that mine was lost in the move because I never would have gotten this one.

Heavy duty and perfect replacement
This stainless steel dough hook is a huge improvement over the original non-stick version that came with my KitchenAid. I love that it’s made of sturdy steel, it feels more durable, easier to clean, and I don’t have to worry about the coating wearing off. The best part is the anti-climb design with the wider shield, it really helps keep the dough from creeping up the hook, which was always a problem with the original one. It works so much more efficiently for bread and pizza dough, and cleanup is simple. Definitely worth upgrading to this steel version!

Great dough hook
I ordered this hook after I had received the beater and I really liked it a lot. Compared to the original hook, this is bigger and heavier. The original hook is a single piece but this is assembled out of two pieces. The actual hook has to be screwed on a plate. I do not think this diminishes its functionality. In fact, due to its size, it may be a good feature that helps its cleaning and storage.The only reason I took away one star is that, in the advertising page, the seller never reveals that it is not a single piece. Not in the pictures, not in the text. So I thought it was a single piece when I ordered. There is absolutely no reason to hide this. It is a good quality hook and I would have given five stars. I want to encourage full disclosures.

Merisch Anti-Climb Stainless Steel Dough Hook: Heavy duty tool for bread making
This is a review for Merisch Stainless Steel Dough Hook for KitchenAid Mixer (K45DH Replacement).I use this dough hook on my KitchenAid K45SS mixer. Here are some observations:- This hook weighs 18.5 oz. in comparison to my K45DH dough hook at 5.2 oz. So, be extra careful to NOT drop it on fragile surfaces.- This hook stands at a perfect 90 degree angle to the circular plate, in comparison to K45DH's curved hook. (See photo.) I have not noticed any difference in dough kneading performances between the two hooks when used for 2-lb loaf recipe.- This hook comes in 2 pieces. Hook + plate. Once assembled, they are very securely held together, and would not wobble or come apart during use. There are no gaps between 2 pieces once assembled, so I won't have to worry about doughs getting lodged -- but, if I so choose, I can disassemble to clean.- This hook looks and feels very durable.I am so far very happy with this new dough hook. Not as helpful as I thought it would be
While the larger plate above the hook is somewhat helpful, it makes it more difficult to poor stuff in without it landing on the top of the plate.

Super nice Stainless Steel dough hook.
Solid piece of equipment! This comes in two pieces and that had me nervous that it might unscrew itself. That hasn't happened. We run a home based sourdough bakery and this hook has been used for several hours already and it is holding up nicely. And most importantly, it is dishwasher safe! That makes it so much easier to clean. It is bigger than the aluminum attachment our KitchenAid came with. The top shield of the dough hook is bigger and it keeps the ingredients in the bowl a lot better during the early stages of mixing. It's a little taller so you might have to adjust your mixer head a little. It appears to be a true stainless steel and is much nicer than expected. It fits perfectly on the mixer head!
