I wish I had this years ago
This is a product I wish I had known about years ago. I have used knives to cut my chestnuts in the past and I’ve had numerous cuts on my fingers. This chestnut scorer was very easy to use. It reduced the time 75%, plus my fingers were not damaged. It comes with two tools that score the chestnuts. They all metal piece works well if the chestnut has a curved side. I used the tool with the plastic handle cover to pierce the shell of the chestnuts that were irregularly shaped. I was very pleased with both tools.I use the boil and roast method for my chestnuts. The picture in the pan shows the chestnuts that have been steamed for 10 minutes. You can see how well they opened.

Every year I say I’m not going to make chestnut stuffing. Now I got a hold of this great little chestnut cracker. It took me about 1/2 hour to crack 2 lbs. of chestnuts ... and my fingers are all still intact! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS GADGET! So glad I have it. In addition to cracking each consistently, the tool is made to last - extremely sturdy. Love it!!

It's okay, I ended up stabbing myself with the picks
I used this on a batch of chestnuts at Thanksgiving and the scoring tool worked well. I think it's easier to get a perfect cut with this as compared to a pairing knife, but the knife had better results as far as removing the shells and skins after roasting. This cutting tool didn't cut as deeply as I can get with a knife, nor are the individual scores as long as I can do with a knife. The set arrived with multiple tools and I'm not sure what to use all of them for. Some of the items helped with peeling but I couldn't get the jaws of the cracker over larger chestnuts and still have the grip strength necessary to close them. The poking tools just made me frustrated--I stabbed myself more than anything else when using them. As a set the price is okay, but the cutter itself doesn't feel like it will last for years.
