Sometimes simple is better......
Love the design on this nutcracker and how it functions. Very simple and to the point.Overall, a great design. Functions smoothly and effectively.Very modern and industrial design. The welds are top notch.Functions better than expected. You just line up the nut on the bottom nut, and crank the t handle bold down. Nuts crack effortlessly.Definitely a 2 hand job. I thought about mounting it to a base, but holding it in 2 hands gives you better control.Very simple to use and keep clean.I liked it so much, i bought another one.I use it to break very hard nuts and it works with ease.Well worth the money.Sometimes simple is better, and this simple cracker is the best cracker I've ever had.

Works on macadamias
This is a cool gadget, and I have cracked open walnuts, macadamia and pecans with it.The nut in the bottom helps hold nuts in place but the smooth top allows the nuts to slip so you have to hold them as best you can while cracking down on them. That is the reason for the less stars.Need to get something on the smooth surface to hold the nuts in place.Otherwise it works well and the pick that comes with was very handy for prying the nuts open where the crack was not all the way throughFix the faulty smooth top and then it will really be a great small gadget you could even take camping with you!Love thst it comes in a nice case too

It cracks the hard nuts 🔩 🌰
My daughter brought me back fresh macadamia nuts in the shells from Hawaii and this works way better than a hammer and a meat tenderizer. I started out with a meat tenderizer, which worked great for about 5 nuts. Then the handle busted apart from the top. We went on to use a hammer (wrapped the nuts in a kitchen towel), but the shells smashed in to the nuts. So then we had to pick the shells out of the meat. I was not willing to do that for all of them so I purchased this nut cracker and I’m super glad that I did. It busted right through the shells and left me with whole nuts instead of smashed parts of them. Way better! It can get a little tedious doing it so many times one at a time, but for fresh macadamia nuts, it was worth it! It shipped out fast, too, which was a huge bonus since I was waiting to eat my treats!

A workout weight works much better
Not all black walnut will get cracked you have to wish for it to crack it. Your hand will crack first. You have to be Superman to use this nut cracker. Black walnuts are extremely hard to open even the squirrels have a difficult time opening them. I’m not sure if they can even open them. So it’s best to get a work out weight and place it on the cement ground or a cement brick and give it a whack or 2. It opens them well. I give them a few whacks then throw them to the squirrels because it’s a black walnut tree near by and the nuts just goes to waste. When the squirrels hear the banging they all come to retrieve their black walnuts. They absolutely love them. So No more wasted nuts.

Don't Waste Your Money
It works for black walnuts, but the design is flawed. You have to hold the walnut to keep it from spinning. It won't open wide enough for large walnuts which is most of ours. For the walnuts that fit, it basically cracks them in half. The halves are nearly impossible to continue cracking because of the spinning and lack of grip on the top nut. The little pick that comes with it is nearly useless for getting the meat out of the cracked shell. We cracked 3 walnuts to give it a good try. After 30 minutes for 3 walnuts, we confirmed that it's a waste of time and effort. With buckets full of walnuts this won't work. The only good things are that it is sturdy and will crack black walnuts, but that isn't helpful if you still can't get the meat out of the walnuts that fit this device.Do not recommend this. Will spend a lot more for a machine that cracks better, like Grandpa's goodie getter.

Beautiful but Rushed Design
As one with design experience and a US Patent, this is a beautiful nutcracker. It is made well with very good materials and and weld joints. This screw device can crack any nut that I know of. Thought NOT for Hickory Nuts seemed to be the best on sight. Yet you only get one to perhaps three chanced to gently fracture the shell, before finger must be fully employed to hold the whole but cracked nut in place. Unlike the Walnut with a little movement of the meat inside the shell, there is most often no play inside to wiggle and get large sections out. My years of experience with Native Pecans to Paper Shells tells me only basic hardware was used and aside from bending and welds, it was not machined to simply hold the nut in its tiny seat to bring the bolt head to hold any nut securely before applying enough force to crack most any nut, except maybe almonds or Brazil Nuts. It took a full half hour to get one Hickory nut opened to where I could get half the meat.As a quality tester, I can see that BOTH contact points were forgotten by the designer/manufacturer. The flat design fits nicely into a drawer, but with an undersized "machine nut" as the base, it is like a golf tee being used to drive a softball as one struggles to get it to stay on the tee on a day with no wind. Machining a hollow into the bolt head would be more like two hands cupped around a basketball and daring someone to knock it out of your hands. All this would likely work in the flat design, but maybe a tripod design that can hang on a pegboard like one's measuring cups to keep it more visible to accessing any of the kinds of nuts that you would cholesterol lowering nutrition from.

Black Walnuts approved
Works great on black walnuts. They don’t explode into pieces , and it’s simple to use. Thank you for the simplicity and price of this.
