works really well for walnuts.
Hickory nuts are delicious but almost impossible to crack. But this sturdy nutcracker made the job doable and fun. I kept the nutcracker wrapped in the mailing material when using so that the shells didn't fly allover the room. Easy and fun to use.
A good nutcracker but needed a bigger platform and stronger screws. A simple 1x3 does the trick.
The old fashioned nut/crab legs cracker arrived quickly and was very reasonable. The package was damaged and one of the nut crackers looked like someone had cut the cracker out of its package but overall I'm excited to be able to crack pecans from our tree.
Did not hold up at all. Only cracked a handful when the metal frame bent up ripping the screws out of the wood. I was able to do a few more but it kept deforming to the point it became useless. I didn't use it for a few months so it was too late to return it..
This is the best I have ever tried. The adjustment is a great option.
To be clear, this item works well on every type of nut we've tried - hazelnut, walnut, Brazil nut, pecan. It lets you adjust the amount of force being used. That's why we kept it. But it arrived with only one of the four screws attached, and that screw was hanging on by a thread (pun intended). The screws weren't long enough to secure the nutcracker to the base, and holes were too large for the screws. We used longer screws and shims, and that's holding so far. We also could have just screwed it to a different base, which we will do if it comes loose again. But it's kind of fun to use, and effective, so three stars for those qualities. But really poorly assembled as it shipped.
