Better designed nutcracker
A few months ago a friend who grows walnuts gave us a large bag of walnuts. My wife and I tried cracking them with the old style nutcracker but found it hard going. The thin nutcracker often slipped off the walnut and when we did manage to keep it in place created a mess when we cracked it. This design works much, much better and is easier to use. Walnut stays in place and it's easier to apply the right amount of pressure to not over-crack it. Great product.Note: The first one that was shipped to us arrived with one arm broken off. This was probably the fault of the folks at Amazon who packed it in a soft envelope that must have been crushed by a heavy box. We returned it and received a replacement a few days later.

Really like this but a small issue.
This was so easy to use. I only have one issue that gave it an overall 4 star rating. I still get a lot of small to tiny pieces rather than the bigger pieces of the nut. It may just be the nature of the nut and not the tool. I actually bought another one.

Needs Review. Could be a great product!
It’s a great little tool. However, I’ve cracked and shelled 22,000 pecans and it wore out very quickly. Could be made sturdier.

Didn't last long
Upon arrival of this item, I was anxious to get started on a bowl of walnuts. On the 4th or 5th walnut, one of the handles broke, rendering the item unusable. If you could rate sturdiness less than a one star, I would do it. I do commend Amazon on the smooth process of making a return.

cracks your nuts, but don’t last
Ergonomic and immensely effective design, the toothy “Sarlacc chamber” is amazing with all type of nuts, even Brazil nuts. However, this particular product is so badly made that it did not last for a single bag of mixed nuts. The recoil spring fell out immediately, which was not a show stopper, but at about 80% of a standard bag (maybe 8-10 oz) the single hinge pin fell out and the device fell apart. The cast metal seems like it would last for many holidays, and the rubber trim on the grip is nice, but fighting to keep the thing together isn’t worth the investment.
