Works as advertised - fabulous coasters
So far, these coasters are fabulous and work as advertised. My old ceramic coasters had water sitting on top, with my plastic glass also sweating with water, and when I would pick up my glass, the coaster would stick to it and fall in the floor. So I used ChatGPT to research finding coasters which would absorb water. I found the word "diatomite", then searched for "diatomite" at Amazon. It brought up these coasters. They are made of diatomite, which is a natural inorganic material with strong water absorption. I didn't know that such a thing existed. They DO get wet, but they absorb the water and dry fast. So far there is no water sitting on top of the coasters like it was doing on my old coasters. I ordered the pink ones, and you might like to know that they are a PALE pink. Very nice & pretty. I may order some more later for my dining table, but for now, I am using 3 at my desktop computer and 3 on my coffee table. It came with a nice black iron holder, but I don't need the holder because I will be using these 6 coasters all the time. I recommend them and am happy with my purchase.

THESE WORK!
I owned one very old coaster that was amazing as far as moisture absorption goes. My husband used a paper towel for his drinks. He didn't have a paper towel the other day so I gave him my coaster to use. I thought I should find some good coasters so we couldboth have one. I bought one set and have returned them. They looked nice but I would drip liquid on me taking a drink. They just didn't absorb like my old one. You know the saying "they just don't make them like they used to". I ordered these next, well Amazon, not the sellers of these coasters, sent me plastic drinking bottles in error. My replacement coasters would be here August 18th, so I reordered a different color. Now for the test! Lots of humidity here, so I took a glass, put ice in it, filled it with water, put it on this coaster in an 85 degree house. Ice melts, glass sweats and NO moisture dripping on me as I drink my water. These are about twice as thick as the others I purchased and they really do work! I do not normally write reviews unless a product is outstanding or can be used safely a different way than already reviewed or if something doesn't live up the the description or reviews. I was not paid for this review and I did not receive these free, but I want you to know as of this date these coasters are perfect. Thank you for your time reading this, I hope it helps.

Stains & scratches
Bottom of these coasters I love except that the velvet isn't over the outter rim of it which can lead to scratching your table. Absorbency has been good so far using for kitchen table inside. I'm a little shocked at how they stain & scratch though. I've used them less than a week & somehow with only my husband & myself, they're already looking nasty. Definitely disappointed about that! I bought the gray ones.

Absorbent, Attractive, and Cleanable
I have used other water absorbent stone items in my home. I bought the dark color to avoid stain appearance. Initially, was able to see that both wet and dry water. These show stain. I was told by customer service to gently sand the surface of the dry discoloration. Alternately, an oxide product, baking soda perhaps, might also draw the stain out of the surface.
