Failed on the first batch of dough! Not "ultra" and not durable
This gear was a replacement for the original equipment that eventually stripped several teeth on some stiff cookie dough. The replacement came promptly and fit into place just fine. It worked great on light batters such as pancake batter. However, when my wife started to make cookies the beater blade started slipping toward the end of the batch. I took the mixer apart again, which is a major pain. I traced the problem down to this gear. Unbelievably, the plastic rim of teeth around the central metal hub was slipping. It was possible to visualize by taking the mixer apart and holding the gear with my fingers and turning the mixing blade with the other hand. It was clear that the gear on the end of the shaft was turning but I was able to hold the plastic gear with my bare fingers. I got a refund and will purchase a different brand. Not a Chinese brand if I can find one.

You can be a hero too!
At first it was pure bravado that lead me to take the broken KitchenAid apart. Many mechanics could testify that when I take something apart to fix it the car ends up with them in worse shape than it started. But this time was different. I could see this plastic bit was chewed up and decided that the Youtube repair video looked appropriate for my skills and attentions span. So I ordered this part.Just a few days later, I declared myself the hero of the kitchen! I have rarely felt so accomplished.(My wife was also moderately impressed.)

Man, this thing sucks
It fit perfectly, it went on, but it sounded just a little... off, just not right. It had a slightly lower pitch when the gears meshed, but the mixer seemed to spin so I left it in and went about my day. A few days later I went to go mix up some dough for bagels (I make some bangin' homemade bagels) and the mixer did alright with the looser material before they all mixed together, as soon as I added some moisture and the ingredients started to solidify, the dough hook just started to slow down until it just stopped spinning. Yep, this gear sucked. WHAT I THINK HAPPENED is that the gear itself would deform under load and bind.I wound up ordering a $20 OEM gear somewhere else and installed that. It sounds right, and works even better.Save yourself the money and just buy the OEM gear from another site and only fix it once.

It works!
Between ordering parts on Amazon and Mister Mixer's tutorial on You tube, we were able to refurbish my Kitchen Aid. It's working beautifully and I hope to get many more years of use!
