I ordered the Zerymhan Bread Lame because it reminded me of items I used to see at artisan festivals, perhaps in a woodworker’s booth. The lame comes with a blade installed and replacement blades all packed in a protective cardboard box for storage. And it does work fairly well with the understanding that since one must touch the razorblade to engage it, some caution is advised. One of the outstanding features of this lame is that when one swings the blade out of the protective cover, it can be anchored with the brass tightening screw at whatever angle is comfortable for scoring.I tested the lame on a fairly sticky loaf of dough, not sourdough, and it did score deeply although it dragged a bit as I expected. However, the resulting baked loaf was indeed a rustic beauty thanks to the lameThis is a gift-worthy piece of baking equipment that surprised me with its workmanship; it’s made of sapele (harder than mahogany) and brass; it truly looks like an artisan piece at a fraction of the price one would pay at a festival or boutique. The materials, finishing, and joinery are high-end and as a result, it must be treated gently meaning no dishwasher cleaning. I chose to just wipe the blade clean after use for storage. Adorable, but room to improve

I chose this lame because it's very clearly the cutest one on the market. I wish the blade was easier to tuck in and out though; you have to unscrew the little gold knob. I wish it had a mechanism like a pocket knife to just do it more easily. Not a dealbreaker though, and the design is just adorable :)

Super cute and well made, but exercise caution when storing the blade

This is a super cute wooden lame that allows you to easily score your loaves of bread. It comes with ten double sided blades and you load the blade by unscrewing the knob and placing it in between the two wooden pieces and then screwing them back together. Once loaded, the blade then can be stored safely by sliding it around and back in between the two pieces of the handle. I have a few different lames already and this one works as a straight lame vs the curved kind (really a preference thing), which I tend to prefer with more detailed work like making wheat stalks. Overall I find it of very good quality and I can tighten the blade in different angles/positions based on my preference. My only issue is with it's design in hiding/moving the blade into position. Unlike a box cutter or exacto knife where the blade slides up and down with a slider, you have to actually touch the blade to move it into or out of position, which gets tricky particularly when you are putting it back to be stored as you are using a double sided blade which needs to me moved sideways. Not a deal breaker as all lames use very sharp blades that need to be carefully stored, but my preference would be to have the bladed slide up and down vs having to manually move it around into place.

Beautiful bread lame that makes scoring so much easier

This bread lame is really cool looking - the sapele wood and brass construction feels really solid and premium, and it looks beautiful sitting on my kitchen counter when I'm not using it. The adjustable blade feature is great because I can change the angle for different scoring patterns, which has really improved the look of my sourdough loaves. The blade stays perfectly stable during cuts with no wobbling, and the safety mechanism of pulling it back into the handle when not in use gives me peace of mind since it's incredibly sharp. Dangerous design

This bread lame looks fun, but in operation it is not. The handle is nice enough, but the overall design is atrocious. The blade design requires that you tighten/loosen a screw that holds the razor blade in place. This still leaves friction in the area where the blade pivots, so even with the screw loosened it still requires some force to open and close it. You have to grab the bare blade with your fingers and move it in or out of the handle, practically guaranteeing that you'll cut yourself. Not recommended.
