I really like this bread basket, it brings back memories of holidays with family when I was young. Grandma's have a way of making kids feel seen and feel special, and my grandma was a master bread baker, who turned a blind eye anytime us kids would sneak her dinner rolls from the warming bread basket she used.The terra cotta stone that comes with this basket has a decorative leaf motif baked into it and whitewashed to highlight the design. The stone fits nicely into the basket and covers the entire bottom. The basket weave has a chunky feel, and is tightly woven, giving strength and rigidity to it. This basket isn't floppy, and the sides remain upright even when the cloth cover is tied tightly.The basket has a linen cloth liner and cover and both will help to retain heat from the stone. None of these items exhibited offensive odors when unboxed.To use this basket to keep your bread warm, you'll have to warm the stone in an oven for about 20 minutes at 350⁰ F, then carefully place the stone into the bottom of the basket. The bread basket set comes with a silver heat proof pot holder mitt for handling the hot stone.It's recommended to wrap your bread in a tea towel of your choice before placing it in the basket, and that's a good idea. The linen basket liner and cover are hand wash only, so to cut down on how much washing you'll have to do to it, just use a separate towel to wrap the bread first, and this will also ensure more heat is retained to keep the bread warm longer.This a lovely and functional set and includes everything you'll need to present warm and moist breads at your table in a way that makes others feel like you really went that extra mile to make sure they enjoy the meal.
