Simple but useful!!
This is the best thing I've bought for myself in a long time. I have wanted to get away from processed margarine and this was a great way to start. Butter should be able to be soft and spreadable. My pick is sturdy, cute on my counter top and so easy to work with. My "I hate change" husband loves it.

I’ve always left butter out in a butter dish. The butter bell keeps it very nicely. Stays fresh.
Great solution

Nice item for those who seeking a natural way to preserve their butter.
This is a lovely item to use to keep your butter fresh.Due to health reasons, we are a sodium free home. Sodium however, is a natural preservative which I can not use on anything my husband eats.Until recently, I have never seen butter get moldy either. Due to the costs of fresh butter and needing salt free butter, I have started making my own which taste so much better on homemade bread than store bought. However, I needed a way to preserve the butter longer than it has been. Placing it in the refrigerator doesn’t stop the mold process happening, apparently only the freezer will do that making using the butter more difficult.I decided to try one of these and see if I could at least prolong the life of my butter. This is a strange but basic concept. Place the butter inside the cup, while placing water inside the jar. The butter cup is then inverted inside the jar where it makes contact with the water creating a barrier that doesn’t allow air to escape and in the process, butter to mold. It’s said that adding a pinch of salt or a few drops of vinegar or lemon juice to the water in the jar also helps this process of natural preserving. I of course can’t add salt, and I am afraid that lemon or vinegar will make the butter taste differently. So far, this has worked fine and my butter does not go moldy before I get the chance to use it. The crock itself is nice. made out of ceramic and glazed with old fashioned coloring. There is a water line inside the crock so you know where the inner cup makes contact with the water. The cup holds around 6 oz or 3/4 cups of butter which is close to 1 1/2 sticks of butter as measured in the West coast. This makes a nice gift for anyone who makes their own bread, or likes to preserve their own food. It’s also great for anyone who is trying to use a more natural approach to their food and/or how it’s made. Of course this will work for anyone who just wants to protect their butter as well. While I wouldn’t consider this a modern item, it does look nice with any decor including minimalist as well as farmhouse style. It’s easy to use, easy to clean, and made from a nice grade and weight of ceramic. It’s made well and seems very durable.
