Very good and easy to use.
Works well, easy to use and clean. They cut the cake well so they always look good. Highly recommended.
Full disclosure, I haven't actually baked or decorated a cake using this ring yet, birthday cake "season" in our family passed just before this arrived and the holidays are yet to come. So my impressions here are based on a careful inspection of this cake ring but not real experience yet. I am an experienced baker, and I make multi-layered cakes quite often especially over the summer months. Lately it's been 3-4 cake layers with filling between each layer, sometimes thin torte style layers, and recently an ice cream cake that was too tall for the springform pan I have - and that one got the better of me. Right after that one I ordered this ring so I'll have more flexibility in the future. In my opinion, the stainless steel is good quality and well formed. The edges are a little sharp so you need to use care when handling and especially when resizing. I did not notice any issues with the ring not staying in place when adjusted to different sizes, the sliding band seemed to hold firmly enough (although I didn't test this at the full 12" because I don't normally bake anything past 10", and it was not full of anything either). I have read that you can bake in these rings too, as long as you use a professional grade sheet pan underneath that is very rigid, and/or use foil on the bottom to prevent the batter from leaking; that might make these a good substitute for a springform pan, and without getting that little rim at the bottom where the springform pan fits in the groove. I will definitely put this to a real-life test in the future, but for now my initial impression is that this ring is good quality and will be useful for baking and decorating.
I love the flexibility of this. I've been working my way through a few gluten free baking books and buying very specific supplies for each recipe. I saw this available through the Amazon Vine program and thought it might solve a lot of problems with buying specific dimensions in rings. It DOES! For example, this recipe called for cutting the cake bottom in half, but I goofed up on the egg whites and it didn't come out as tall as I expected. But it was no problem to use the whole cake, because the walls of this ring are plenty high enough for the added height. The top layer of this cake is chocolate mousse and while the strawberries made most of the contact with the ring, mousse got pushed through and this released just fine after being in the fridge for a few hours. I've enclosed pictures of the cake in the ring, out of the ring and what stuck to the ring (not much). Also, the cake base was baked in a 9" cake pan, but the ring was set to 8" and used like a cookie cutter to make the nice smooth edges through the baked cake bottom. How cool. I've always been amazed when I see cakes like this and assumed some poor chef was using an exacto knife, tweezers and prayer to make edges like this. Cake rings. Oh my gosh! So glad I have this! This recipe is a slighty goofed up and slightly modified version of "strawberry chocolate mousse cake" from "Patisserie Gluten Free: The Art of French Pastry. Cookies, Tarts, Cakes, and Puff Pastries" by Patricia Austin. But as you can see, even slightly goofed up, this cake ring helps make up for it. It's a pretty cake, especially given I'm just learning! Good tools! Good recipes!
This adjustable cake ring is so easy to use & it does the job of multiple cake rings. It can be adjustable to anywhere between close to 6 inches to 12 inches & everything in between. When I first took it out of the box it was in the most compact position & it stayed. I expanded it to the widest it would go which was about 11.5" (any further & the clips wouldn't hold it in place) & it stayed just fine. When I went to collapse it back to the 6", it didn't want to stay & kept popping out to almost 7" wide. I plan to just keep the box it came in for storage. I am able to manually squeeze it to the 6" & then put it in the box. The inside has measurements etched into it to help keep cakes uniform when baking several. It’s extra tall so it allows you to make more unique sized cakes & tier cakes as well. The stainless steel is very sturdy, easy to adjust & easy to clean (I hand wash it). In addition to it doing the job of several rings, it doesn't take up much space in my cabinet.
I needed a tall springform type cake pan and this 6 inch adjustable pan fit the bill to a T. It is made of high quality, premium stainless steel which is non-stick. I look for dishwasher safe products and this one is.Because it can be adjusted from 6 ~ 12 inches it will give me more flexibility and require less storage area than have several different sized pans. The product is very high quality and ideal for making cakes in various sizes. To prevent leaks, it’s important to wrap the bottom tightly with baking paper and avoid using overly liquid cake batter. Using it in a preheated oven helps minimize the risk of batter spilling over. The connector piece is a bit tall, but with baking paper, it doesn't cause issues. However, the cake ring cannot be used directly on a tray without support. Cleaning can be a bit tricky—after removing the cake, it’s best to soak the ring in water before washing it with a scrubber or sponge. Putting it directly in the dishwasher might not clean it thoroughly due to its mechanism.
