cake ring
Nice cake ring. Very sturdy. So far I have only used it to cut down a cake already baked. Will do a following if I use it to bake a cake or fill one. I also bought the cake ring clip just in case it doesn't stay put when I open it. Bought this from other reviews I read.

Works great for sky-high cake
I bought this cake ring to make the Momofuku MilkBar Birthday Cake recipe, which requires a metal ring to support the three layers while you're building the cake. This product was the most affordable, it came on time, the packaging was secure, and the ring itself is sturdy. I figured out how to use it with minimal effort. It worked great for my cake (see photo that I forgot to take BEFORE I took off the ring, but it came up over the bottom two layers and held everything together until it was time to serve).DRAWBACKS: Because the ring is adjustable, cake can get between the metal layers so you have to fiddle around to clean it. The clamp for adjusting the ring size works pretty well but does require you to hold it just right, which earns it a solid 4 stars. My biggest pet peeve has to do with the seller, not the product. This seller is one of those who will bombard you with emails after you buy the product, trying to get you to review it. I personally find that intrusive and it makes me nervous that the product isn't really any good...otherwise, why are they trying to dang hard? But upon reflection I think it's a good cake ring for an amateur baker like myself, and it's worthy of a review on its own merits, NOT because the seller is pushy.

Versatile adjustable 3 inch deep cake mold
I'd seen this type of cake pan on baking shows,most notably the Great British Baking Show. I liked the 3 inch depth first of all.Then,having one product for most any size cake was interesting, and much cheaper than buying multiple sizes of pans.Since there is no "bottom" you place the mold on a sheet or cookie pan. That becomes your bottom.The clip holds the pan at the circumference you want. Whether you use a liner or not probably depends on your recipe or preference.The first cake I made in this was Queen Elizabeth's Chocolate Biscuit Cake. I saw it used in Chef McGrady's how-to video and had to try it!It worked well! It isn't a baked cake, it is an assembled cake, but I had no leaking of melted chocolate, the only liquid in rhe recipe.I think as long as my sheet pan base has no warping it should be fine.I like that this mold can be used for so many other recipes: ice cream or other frozen dishes, even gelled recipes or a mousse in a main course. Use your imagination!It was very easy to clean, pretty much rinsed clean and can store nested inside your other cake pans.If you think you'd like the depth and size versatility it offers,give it a try.

Not a true 6" at its smallest
At it's smallest size, it's NOT a true 6". Mine measure to 6.5", which leaves a gap between the mold and my true 6" cake plate. When I make my 6" cakes, this 0.5" gap causes my small cake to be slightly shorter than expected. It makes a difference for me though.

An expandable cake mold- a baker’s dream!
My granddaughter and I loved watching the Great British Baking Show this season. In the “Cake” episode, the contestants made the most beautifully presented cake using a cake mold and cellophane so that the finished product was a cake with its beautiful layers of custard and fruit were viewable on all sides. I was inspired to bake my granddaughter’s birthday cake in the same manner. I knew to hop on Amazon and found a perfect cake mold for that purpose and it is expandable or collapsible, depending on the size of cake one wants to make. The cake turned out perfectly and the mold served its purpose well. Rather than having to go out and find the right sized cake pan, the mold I bought will allow me to make the size of cake I want.
