Ever since I saw a bug on a lettuce leaf that had come in a package marked “washed”, I’ve been careful to always wash my salad greens. However, I didn’t like eating wet greens after washing, so for a while I spent time drying them with towels, I was pleased when I discovered a salad spinner. This device relies upon centrifugal force to spin the water outward through a basket. My first spinner relied upon a cord that one pulled like the power cord on a small outboard motor. This unit spins the lettuce by pressing down on a plunger in the center of the top. There is a button for a brake (although it is sort of fun to let it spin on its own until it stops, unless you are in a hurry to get your salad to the table). There is also a switch to lock the plunger down so the spinner takes less room when stored. The basket is removable so the water that collects in the bowl can be easily dumped. This spinner even comes with a cover for the bowl so that you can store the greens in the bowl. For what it is worth, this spinner very closely resembles at least one other spinner on the market, although the plunger is topped with a vaguely triangular piece with the word Calphalon written on it. This is not to suggest that it is better or worse. It does the job as well as its siblings.I insist upon washing my lettuce, but I don’t like water on it. This device removes the water as effectively as any I’ve found.
I never realized how much water my "old-school" rinsing method was leaving behind until I used this Calphalon spinner. It has genuinely changed my salad game.Performance & DesignThe efficiency here is the standout feature. I completely submerged my chopped Romaine (as seen in my photo) to ensure a deep clean, drained the bulk of the water, and let the spinner do the rest. As you can see from the second photo, the amount of excess water it pulled out after draining is impressive. No more soggy dressing or watered-down salads.Key Highlights:The Mechanism: It’s incredibly smooth. It doesn’t feel like you’re fighting the gears, and it reaches a high RPM quickly without much effort.Stability: Unlike cheaper plastic versions I've used, this one stays put on the counter. It doesn't "walk" or wobble while you’re spinning.Storage Win: The inclusion of a dedicated storage lid is a massive plus. You can spin, dump the water, pop the flat lid on, and slide the whole bowl into the fridge. It keeps the lettuce crisp for days.Build Quality: It feels premium. The clear outer bowl is sturdy enough to be used as a serving bowl in a pinch.Final Thoughts:If you’re tired of "wet" salads and want something that feels like a professional kitchen tool rather than a flimsy toy, this is worth the investment. It’s easy on the hands, easy to clean, and does exactly what it promises.
Very high quality heavy duty salad spinner. I was very impressed with the build of this spinner. I have gone through a few oxo salad spinners and the bowl always seems to crack but I don't expect this one to have that problem. It's very heavy duty plastic with reinforcements where you expect and it really doesn't add bulk or anything and looks just as nice. The spinner mechanism can be startling when you release it (it really pops up and is kind of loud) but it feels like it will last and it's certainly powerful enough to get the water off the greens. I'm inherently impatient and aways use the brake and this is an exceptional brake. It's solid and stops the spinning quick unlike my other spinners. It's significantly better. The entire top that contains the mechanism is solid and feels very well built, much better than the other's I've used. The lid is one of those things I never keep and this seems to be a little worse than most. It's a pain to put on but it doesn't matter much to me as i've never used them. I just use the spinner lid and then I don't have to store two things. Much easier so I will be disposing of the lid quickly as well as my old cracked lower quality oxo salad spinner.Great value for the money for a much better built salad spinner than I've ever had. The top and spinner mechanism, the bowl, and the colander all are just super solid.
This salad spinner works really well. The non‑slip tread on the bottom keeps it steady while spinning, and even though it’s big, the design makes great use of the size. I especially love that it comes with a storage lid, so the bowl doubles as a container. Overall, a practical and smart design that takes it from being a unitasker to a more versatile kitchen tool worthy of the storage space.Although I love salads, this is more of a warm weather need for me. That's when I like to add lot of extras and this tool would make it easier to really clean produce.Pasta salads made with penne or rigatoni are a warm weather staple for me and I look forward to using this to easily dry my pasta with a few brief spins.Washing fresh fruits usually turns into a bit of project for me bc I ended up spreading towels on the counter and leaving them to finish drying before refrigerating. This spinner can handle the job much better. The slight con is the bowl is kind of big, not really a problem just something to consider if limited on space. I'm using it to clean batches of food as needed so I can use it for multiple needs, wash it, and put it away once.
