Easy to use and makes my meal prep quicker
The Calphalon Aero 5-in-1 Vegetable Chopper is one of those products that has made my meal prep so much easier than I thought possible. I’ve had choppers in the past and didn’t love them enough to store them in my limited-space kitchen or dig them out when I did have storage space. This one, however, has found a home in a high-use area. What’s different about it from others? On the surface, it doesn’t seem like there’d be anything. It looks similar to others I’ve found in this range, but the quality turned out to be much higher. The materials are durable and construction is solid. The device works smoothly and most importantly, it works consistently. I didn’t have to wiggle half-cut pieces off the blades or fish out slightly-too-large chunks from a pile of smaller ones to cut them down. It also sits still on my granite countertop without sliding around or tipping easily.Additionally, though mine only came with three swappable plates (two square sizes, one rectangle), those plates offer the majority of what I need for chopped or diced vegetables on a daily basis.Maintenance was also easier than I expected. For cleaning, the set included a crevice cleaning tool that helped make hand-washing quick, though I didn’t find that food stuck to the blades much or often. And for storage, the blades fit into the basin, which means I don’t need to worry about someone in my family cutting their fingers when they reach blindly into a drawer or cabinet like they have with other devices that had the plates exposed or separate. The basin does take up a decent amount of space, but it’s not unreasonable, and it holds the perfect amount for my family of four. When I’m making breakfast potatoes, I can chop four large potatoes and have room to spare, so I’m not having to jiggle the container to get everything to fit.Although I’d consider this tool near-perfect, there are two things I wanted to mention that aren’t as stellar.1) The chopper might not be best for those with mobility challenges or limited hand strength, at least where harder items like carrots and potatoes are concerned. My husband and I didn’t have any trouble with it, but my kids and mom would, since it takes a lot of hand strength to get through those items. Softer produce was fine.2) If you think you might use the additional two plates that come with the 8-in-1 unit, order that set. If not, order the 5-in-1 to save money, but be 100% certain. If you change your mind later, you won’t be able to order those plates separately. At least, at the time of this review, I can’t seem to find them anywhere, which is a shame, because I did want to try those.I genuinely love this chopper and would get it again in a heartbeat. It's well worth owning.

My dicing technique is less "chef" and more "enthusiastic hazard."
This gadget promised to bring order to my vegetable chaos. It's a manual chopper with a clear container, a push-lid, and five stainless steel blades that snap into the base. The blades are for different jobs: big cubes, little cubes, slices, and matchsticks.I tested it on a bell pepper, fully expecting a mess. I popped in the medium dice blade, dropped in the pepper chunks, and pressed the lid. With one satisfying crunch, the container was filled with perfect, identical little squares. No flying seeds, no weird wedge-shaped pieces. It felt like a tiny miracle on my countertop. Cleanup was a breeze since everything is dishwasher safe.· The crisp cuts: It delivers perfectly uniform pieces every single time. It's incredibly fast and contains the mess completely. The blades are sharp and effective. It makes meal prep for soups or salads a joy.· The rough chops: It's not for huge volumes—you have to work in batches. The blades are seriously sharp, so handling them requires attention. For one small onion, washing the parts might feel like more work than using a knife. It has revolutionized my weeknight cooking by eliminating the most tedious part. I'm genuinely hoping the plastic housing and the blade-locking mechanism are tough enough for long-term use, because I don't want to go back to my haphazard chopping ways. A brilliant little tool that makes you feel like a kitchen genius with zero skill required.

5 pieces - NOT 5-in-1
If you want to have universally sized veggies, this will do the trick! I have a no-name branded one and it does work well - that one has a lot more pieces including a mandoline and spiralizer. However, the blade area is smaller on that one. This Calphalon branded one not only feels much more sturdy, but the cutting surface (changeable blades) are larger so you can cut more at once.If you want cubed food, this really does require you to slice your food items first (for instance, slice the onions first and then dice with this. I really appreciate how everything is contained within the container below. However, I'm not sure it really is a time-saver since you're slicing anyway, and then tacking on the hand-washing requirement vs throwing a knife and cutting board in the dishwasher. The 3 blades give the choice of large or small cubes or slices/julienne. I have tried potatoes with the large cubes, onion with the small, and peppers with the julienne. All 3 cut smoothly, although the onion with the smaller cubes was much harder to process.I appreciate that the container has a rubberized bottom to prevent it from sliding around. Considering that you do put a significant amount of force, this is a welcome safety feature. Two things that disappoint me - this has to be hand washed. The blades are ridiculously sharp (a good thing) so having to wash by hand will be a dangerous endeavor for me. My no-name brand is dishwasher safe... so... Second - the description is very misleading. 5-in-1 says to me that this will give 5 types of chopping/slicing options when in actuality it only gives 3. It is more accurately described as "5 pieces". So the description is very misleading in my mind.At $30, it is a fair value. Comparing to the no-name brand, this does have some strengths such as the larger chopping surface area and sturdier, more solid feel, however for almost the same price, getting all the extra features really makes it hard to justify.
