Excellent set for the money

No, I am not a professional chef and I am not looking for the best industry knifes, just a consumer looking to get the best for my hard earned money. I did not want to buy the set with all of the additional cutlery options, just a set with good working knifes. My family was using an old Chinese knife we bought 20 years ago and my wife would sharpen it by rubbing it with another knife, while it cut good looking at it close showed that the blade was cerrated by the sharpening technique used (The knife was cutting because of it's damaged cerrated surface, not because it was sharp). I looked at a lot of recommended knife set by the experts and found that I did not want to spend that kind of money on one knife and I don't think we would appreciate it. After hours of looking at different sets I found this set and took a chance with it at a BF deal. Wow, what a nice set for us lowly consumers out there, the knifes were very sharp and comes with the three knifes that we would use most including a very nice wood block and a sharpening bar, no more sharpening by rubbing knifes together! My wife and older son both were very happy with the performance of these knifes as well as I. We are very happy with this brand/set and at the price?, it's a no brainer. If you are looking for a good knife set, are not a professional and are looking for good quality for your money then I say look no further and get this set!.

Still really sharp

I've been using this knife set for a couple of months now, and it's still holding up incredibly well. The blades are still super sharp, which honestly surprised me considering how often I use them—everything from daily meal prep to weekend BBQs. I make it a point to run them over the honing knife regularly, and that’s made a big difference in keeping the edge razor-sharp without needing to fully resharpen. It’s become part of my routine now, and it only takes a few seconds. The knives still look great, too—no rusting, no dull spots, and they’ve got a nice weight in the hand. They do have some imperfection on the handle but looking at other reviews it seems like it is a common gripe. For the price, I couldn’t be happier with how they’ve performed long-term. Not sharpened?! Seriously?

Okay, the vegetable cleaver was fairly sharp, but the meat cleaver was not at all! I get it, as a meat cleaver, it doesn’t need to be paper towel cutting sharp. But it wasn’t sharp at all. A friend who sharpens knives as a side business was shocked, also noticing that whatever they tried to do was so uneven he wasn’t sure what they were trying to do. It definitely wasn’t sharpening. He stated that he would have more work cut out for him than a simple sharpening.All that said, Cangshan’s Helena series are sharp; I own a few. Elbert series must be their factory seconds (or worse?). Don’t buy the Elbert.

Beautiful and sharp!

Ordered these to upgrade my older, less expensive set during prime deal days as they went on sale. Also purchased a full set from same company of the harder steel with the walnut block. These knives are weighted well and beautiful to behold. I appreciate good kitchen tools and these are very sharp and of good quality stainless. Be sure to wash and dry your good knives by hand immediately after use to maintain the quality as even high quality knives can dull and wither when abused. Also purchased their sharpener (don’t need it yet and likely won’t for some time). Looking forward to using these knives for many years to come and would definitely purchase more of their knives in the future for myself or as a gift. Love them and every time I use them, I do a little happy dance in my kitchen!

decent knives but not great.

Cangshan ELBERT series German steal knife set is decent for the price. Out the box, the wood block and overall presentation is nice. The knives feel solid and balanced in the hand. Handle of the knives have a very smooth design which can be slippery and can be a little dangerous when wet.Closer examination of the knives shows the surface of the blades not very highly polished. You can still see the grind marks from the machinery. When exam through the spin of the of blade, the blades are not completely straight. The blades are either curved to the right or left. This will not affect the ability of knives to cut but does show how much detail is put in final finish of the blades.Out of box the knives are sharp. But not extremely sharp like more expensive knives. A little honing will improve the sharpness of the knives.The wooden block holding the knives looks great. But it comes with a few scratches out of box already. The packaging is great. So I don’t think it was damaged during shipping.For the price, it is an attractive and starting knife set on the counter top a before you get into more expensive and finer knives. 4-star.
