I never knew what I was missing until now. This is an amazing knife set with the perfect selection of different knives for a variety of cooking needs. Before this, I was using an old set I'd purchased from a department store, but these really showed me what high quality knives are like.First, this set includes a carving knife and a carving fork, which I didn't have before. It is so much easier now to cut steaks, port tenderloin, etc. with these than before. The fork is nice and strong and holds the meat in place, while keeping my hands away from the knife blade. The steel on all the knives is a very hard, high quality stainless steel which slices through the meats, potatoes, vegetables, etc. very easily. In addition, the handles are very strong, nicely balanced, are very comfortable to hold and cut with, and have a full tang. They also clean very easily and I haven't had any problems with food sticking to the blades or handles. After using these for a week now, I feel more comfortable cutting with them.This knife set has given me the best knife to use for each task in the kitchen. So far I've only prepared my regular meals, but these will really come in handy preparing for my holiday meals this fall. The in-drawer knife tray is very nice and securely holds each knife. It looks like there is also room where I can add 2 more paring knives. When comparing knife sets, I calculated the cost of this at roughly $23.00 per knife (not including the holder). Based on that cost per knife and with this quality, I feel this knife set is an excellent value. I highly recommend these knives. Also, they were boxed beautifully and look very professional and I feel they would make a great present for any new home/apartment owner, newlywed, or special someone who likes to cook and entertain.

Very nice set

This is a very nice nice set to we are actually going to use as a camping set. We have a knife block set from the same company that we got at Costco that we've been enjoying quite a bit. You can definitely spend more for a better knife but I don't know that you'll be getting a whole lot more worth out of it. With most knives about this quality or better as long as you take care of them and sharpen and hone them you should have sharp knives for a long time. Also make sure that you wash and dry them after using them. This can help keep a lot of the acid from the foods that you cut up off the knives. You do get a nice variety of knives that can serve almost any purpose. Yes, it is designed for the barbecue but you can find use for a lot of these knives elsewhere in the kitchen. I really like the shears because they come apart super easily yet stay together. This is important because cleaning scissors sometimes can be a pain in the butt. Every knife comes with a protective sheath including the scissors and every knife has a slot in the case that is marked to help fit everything perfectly. You also have a few pockets in front of the knives if you want to use those for anything such as a thermometer. It does come with a shoulder strap if you want to use it if you don't then it has a regular carrying handle. The knives came very sharp and work very well but only time can tell how long they will hold up. Like I said we have some knives from this same brand that we got over a year ago that are still going strong without any issues. All I've had to do is a little bit of honing. As long as you take care of your knives you should be able to use these for years to come.
