Handles Well, Feels Proper in the Hand, Well Balanced and Sharp.

This is a really good looking knife. The metal glistens, the damascene pattern is beautiful and the blue handle is striking with the single inlayed decorative rivet. The included wood sheath is a single hollowed block in matching blue, engraved with the name/logo. All of that is irrelevant if the knife does not perform – and - this knife performs as well as it looks. There is sufficient clearance for your finger under the blade/handle and a secure stop to prevent your hand from sliding forward, possibly onto the blade. The back spine is carefully finished so that it does not feel sharp on your fingers when you bear down on the top edge. The synthetic handle is a striking blue accent but it perfectly balances the blade for easy handling and is slightly textured for a firm grip even when wet. The knife feels light in your hand. The full tang extends through the handle and the grip is perfectly aligned, polished and finished so you can feel no ridges or gaps in assembly. There is a thin brass insert between the steel and the handle that is perfectly and smoothly finished. A lot of care went into the assembly. The blade is beautiful. Dimples help slices slide off easily and the damascene finish if really from repeated folding during forging not a fake etching. The blade is extremely sharp and slices through material with surprising ease. The blade is ground to 16 degrees and the steel has a Rockwell hardness of 60. This is harder than many other knives (German) and is necessary so that the blade will hold its edge at that extreme angle. It also makes the blade prone to chipping if mistreated. Due to the hardness, the blade will need less frequent sharpening though it will be more difficult to sharpen. Regular honing will prolong the edge. It’s always a trade off isn’t it?If you care for your knives, keep them clean and sheathed and don’t use them to hack through bones this knife will be a dream to use and own. Mistreat it and you will have wasted your money, that’s not the knife’s fault. With that said, I would recommend this knife, I like it!

Pretty knife. Lovely blue handle. Good weight. Sharp!

This comes in a box suitable for gift-giving, although mine was askew with the sheath out of the holder and the knife out of the protective tip in the box. I rearranged them properly for the photo. The sheath is substantial enough for the purpose, and the knife is beautiful. It's sharp, nicely balanced, and does a great job with cutting/chopping tasks. The blade is artistic on its own, and the combination with the blue handle is really sharp (pardon the pun!) The blade design is very pretty, but it also does a great job. The design makes it easy for whatever you're cutting to slide off and have the blade ready for the next slice. The grip was comfortable. I felt like I had plenty of room for my fingers/hands (I don't have small hands, either, for a woman.) It was comfortable to hold the knife tip-down and work in a clockwise pattern to chop. I never worried about my fingers not having room in that process, and it made quick work of slicing an apple. It is very expensive, but most beautiful, high-quality knives seem a little too pricey. But a good, sharp knife is the most important kitchen tool. And what a gorgeous tool this is to make your kitchen work even more enjoyable. Recommend.

THAT is a knife

I was on the lookout for a new all-purpose, high-quality kitchen knife and saw this one with good reviews and a decent price. I decided to give it a try and am glad that I did. I'm a bit of a knife snob, so rest assured that me saying it's of excellent quality is hard-earned praise. The handle is extremely comfortable. I have large hands, my wife has much smaller hands. It's sized properly to fit both of us well. It has enough undercut at the back of the blade to keep your fingers away from the cutting edge of the blade and enough grip to keep the knife from rotating in your hand while you're slicing. And the beautiful colors you see in the ad are the beautiful colors you'll get. The handle is very attractive. The sheath is extremely solid. I do not leave knives in their sheaths, but if I ever have occasion to carry this knife somewhere else (like if I smoke some meat at a party away from home), this sheath will serve very well.As far as the blade itself, it's great. It's plenty thick that you would have to do something incredibly stupid to bend it. It's SHARP right out of the package. And after using it several times, it's still sharp. I don't foresee having to sharpen it often like I do some of our cheaper kitchen knives. And hey, it's Damascus. It looks as good as it cuts. All in all, I'm very satisfied with this knife, especially at this price. Sometimes "Made in China" means lesser quality, but not this time.

A beautiful knife that should last a lifetime

Wow. When i opened this knife to inspect it, it surpassed all my expectations. I had recently travelled to Japan and purchased a Santoku knife in the world famous Kappabashi district. This Cangshan knife, although it is made in China, is as good as that knife. This knife is stunning to look at. The Damascus blade is beautiful and the blue fiberglass handle looks like wood. I had to double check the description as i swear it looks like wood. The attention to detail, the brass inserts and intricate rivet is all a sign of fine workmanship. The dimple on the knife blade helps the keep food from sticking to the blade as you slice vegetables. The knife is a nice heft to it and it's well balanced. The octagon handle is surprisingly comfortable to hold. The wood sheath has that same blue color and is magnetic, so you just slide the knife in and it'll stay protected. With other knifes, I've had a pin or some other mechanism to keep the knife in place and that pin is long gone.I was further surprised that the included pamphlet noted that Thomas Keller of the French Laundry is their Cangshan Ambassador. I'm super happy with this knife and will be using it daily in my kitchen.
