Minus one star for deceptive labeling

Yes, this blade is beautiful and sharp, and given that both Crate and Barrel and William Sonoma carry this line, it's undoubtedly great quality. That said, the C&B and WS listings for this line of blades calls out the hammered texture for the blade but does NOT ANYWHERE make the claim that the blade is Damascus steel, unlike the listings here and on the manufacturer's own website - which don't provide any detail about the layers or number of folds, as Damascus steel blade manufacturers typically do. This leads me to believe that the Damascus-looking design may instead be an etched design. The lack of Damascus folding does not make this a less sharp or less beautiful knife, but does make me question whether the pricing should be equivalent to its Damascus counterparts by comparable brands.

Beautiful quality sharp knife

This is a beautiful knife, both the blade and the handle. The handle is very comfortable with a classic Japanese flat sided octagon construction, though it says it is fiberglass and looks like wood. It is full tang construction for strength and longevity. The blade is a X-7 steel which is high end Japanese hardened steel which is harder than most German steel. This allows it to take a sharper edge. This one is a 67 fold Damascus giving it a beautiful pattern on the knife. The hammered surface lets item you are cutting just fall off.I did my test on a freshly cooked baguette. This is always the hardest test for me with a crispy, not smooth, outer surface and soft hot dough inside. With my other bread knives, it eventually catches, tears, or you have to squish the bread to cut through it. This blade went through beautifully leaving me with nice unsquished slices of baguette. It is definitely the best bread knife that I have used. It is not inexpensive, but to me it is well worth it.It has a good magnetic sheath, but I am not using it because this knife it now a primary knife on my magnetic knife holder in my kitchen.

Expensive and questionable steel

The handle is cook looking...The blades pattern welding almost seems to be an etch rather than actual layering with high carbon steel.I would not recommend this knife.

Stunning knife!

I’d like to start off with positives, the biggest of which being that this is an absolutely beautiful knife. I’m mean it will catch attention hanging in your kitchen, in a way, it’s a work of art. Handle is made from G10 which is a fiberglass/resin material that’s used in some of my nicer pocket knives. The handle pin has an intricate design as well. The knife itself cuts through bread like butter, no complaints at all with looks and performance. The complaints I have are more about the price and claims. It claims to be a Damascus knife but upon closer inspection, it really doesn’t look like it. I have other Damascus knives and I have etched knives. Putting them all side by side, this knife resembles the etched knife much more than the Damascus. Another thing to further that claim is there’s no info on the amount of layers. All other Damascus knives I have typically are proud to advertise the amount of layers in the blade, some even printed on the blade itself. Coupling that with the high price point of this knife, I would personally look elsewhere for a Damascus knife, but if you love the looks of this one and need a good bread knife this knife definitely fits the bill.

Beautiful knife that works like a charm!!

First of all, this bread knife is so beautiful I almost want to just keep it laying out on the kitchen counter! The sheath is magnetic.. so if someone had a magnetic wall plate this would definitely be an amazing addition, on looks alone. But this is just not about the looks. This knife is absolutely stunning AND cuts like a dream. The 9 inch blade is X-7 steel alloy.. with quite a unique hammered pattern. Also, VERY sharp. There isn’t a bread loaf out there that will win against this knife!!The handle feels extremely solid and comfortable to handle. The copper mosaic rivet is a beautiful finishing touch. As copper does, it will get a natural patina with time. Polishing with lemon and salt will keep it more of the copper finish, if you prefer that look. This is hands down the most unique and beautiful knife I own, and performs as well as it looks! Love that it has its own sheath so (if it’s not displayed on the counter haha) I can slip it in my utensil drawer for quick access. While this knife is a little pricey, I still hands down recommend it. Would also make a nice wedding or anniversary gift for someone!!

Extremely beautiful, very sharp

First and foremost I must say that this knife is absolutely beautiful! The knife has a 9 inch Damascus steel serrated blade attached to a very comfortable blue faux wood handle. The knife also comes with a wood sheath that has magnets inside for strong and sturdy protection of the blade when not in use. This series of knives from Cangshan are not your entry level set which means they also come with a pretty high price tag. At the time of writing this review, This knife is selling for $130 which is on par with other knives of this quality. This knife will last you a lifetime if taken care of properly. Hand wash only, never dishwash. I have used several different brand knives over the years and I can say, this bread knife tops them all in this category. It doesn’t matter if it’s a dinner roll or a full French bread loaf, it slices through with ease. I absolutely love cutting with this knife so much that I wish I could use it more frequently. This knife is a perfect addition to Cangshan’s other KITA series knife sets. If you are willing to invest in a high quality set of knives, this bread knife is a must.
