Poor design, complete junk!
Purchased these L series Cangshan knives less than two years ago from Costco. Because of the rounded handles they slide off the plate onto the table or into the plate! Poor design. Also, all of the kitchen knives and the steak knives have cracked where the pin goes thru the handle!! They have NEVER been dropped, abused or put in the dishwasher. Complete Junk. Don't buy.

Don't underestimate how great this really is!
I've been using this set for a little over a year now, and believe me when I say, I have a lot of knives to choose from in my collection. Over 50 in fact. This set has become my hands down favorite however, for most of my culinary uses. Why? Because they're small and easy to work with when dicing onions, celery, carrots, shallots, garlic, you name it. The blade thickness on both the chef's knife and Santoku are also sturdy enough to easily cut through small joints when prepping chicken wings. Moreover, Cangshan uses German Steel that holds an edge. I have a high end WorkSharp knife sharpener that puts an incredible edge on these, and in between full sharpenings, a few strokes with a good steel and they're good to go. I was truly surprised how much I use the serrated knife as well. It does an incredible job even on delicate cuts like tomato's. Overall, I can't say enough good things about this small but incredibly powerful and useful set of knives. There are thousands of choices out there, but this one is at the top for me, both in terms of price, functionality and favorability and they were razor sharp right out of the box.

Good knives, but minute quality flaws for a high end set
I like the way these knives cut. They are heavy, thick spined, and decently comfortable grip for such a slick rounded handle. The knives are sharpened very well, to the level where you can cut paper just by touching, without any need to saw back and forth even minutely. They are supposedly made from CRMOV15 steel which I find holds a sharpened edge very well. Vanadium doped knives are great in my opinion. The handles are decent, particularly the metal logo embedded in them although there are some minor flaws if you look closely at the logo. The knife choices are slightly weird though, with multiple serrated ones, and a total of only 5 knives but you would probably mostly use just the chefs knife. While it's generally good, there are several aspects that detract from the quality expected of a higher end knife set.The main focus would be the knives, but I will go through the other minor details first. The knife block is heavy, made of bamboo, but it has quite a few millimeter deep nicks and marring that make it look beat up a little even under the plastic wrap. I do expect a smoother and less easily nickable block as even my cheap bamboo cutting boards don't nick that easily. It also has a little bit of sideways instability and tilts somewhat easily. Next, the scissors aren't my favorite. The blade of the scissors operate smoothly, tightly, and are sharp. However, the plastic handles feel cheap and uncomfortable for any heavy shearing greater than snipping herbs. They aren't ergonomic at all and feels like something you'd find for under $10 despite the good blades. Appearance and ergonomics do matter for these expensive knife sets. Next would be the finish of the knives. Each knife has the logo and metal codes emblazoned on the blade, which detracts from the appearance and makes it more industrial and messy looking in my opinion. The writing are all the same size so even the smaller knives have the same size label and that basically covers the majority of the blade surface, which looks bad. The chef knife, and the other blades to lesser extents, have very obvious scratch and scuff marks as well as the curved grinding marks along the entire blade. It is not a polished or textured finish like even the $50 knife sets. I think that is pretty big flaw for a close to $200 knife set to not be polished in all aspects.Overall, the knives are good and definitely sharp and usable but there are minute flaws that detract it from being a high end knife set.

Never had a knife set like this before!
I know quality when I see, touch, and use a product. This knife set immediately notified me that it was professional grade. I have worked in a restaurant and would have loved to have had tools like these.First, the knives are perfectly balanced. It's something I've never been able to enjoy before, and I've learned to appreciate the little bit of effort that's saved by effortlessly handling a good quality knife. The feel of the handles is enjoyable, and I appreciate the precision with which they join the steel. Very comfortable.I really like the selection of blades and sizes here! Perfect for our kitchen. Not too large, and includes the useful paring knife and shears. The bamboo base is stunning and really sets off the look. Compared to a standard wood block this is vastly more interesting and pretty. The knives are of course extremely sharp, and we'll work hard to care for them properly - no dishwasher for these! I expect to have this set for a long long time.

Nice knife set
I have only been using this set for around a month and I like that this set has just the basic knives that you will use in the kitchen. I have had bigger sets of knives, but this set just has all the knives that I use all the time. The knives are sharp, weighted and fit comfortably in hand. I have had no stains on the knives since I have been using them and have maintained the sharp edges since I have using them. The kitchen scissors work great, they are strong, well made, and sharp. The block is solid and nice, but the knives only fit into the block the one direction, If the knives are placed in the block wrong part of the blade shows. This set in nice and seems to be holding up well to everyday use and is the perfect for my kitchen.

Very nice knife set
This is a very nice good quality knife set. It comes with seven pieces which I really like because I never use all of the different knives that come with the larger blocks. These are good quality and well worth the price for what you're getting. I also like that the knife block is slim so it doesn't take up a whole lot of space on the counter.
