Love this knife! More importantly my wife loves it. It is sturdy, sharp and great looking.
I'll admit, I had my doubts about this knife. After all, who buys a serrated knife at this price point for anything other than bread? How would it do with tomatoes, onions, carrots, celery? Well, I'm here to say, it passed every one of my tests with flying colors. It's small enough that it doesn't feel unwieldy when slicing veggies, yet is sharp enough and rugged enough to slice through anything with ease. I was blown away from the minute I first slice. Even my $150 Japanese knives aren't much better, unless you're trying to get paper thin slices...and face it, how many of use are true culinary masters? I simply wanted something that would glide through tough skinned vegetables without complaining, and this was the answer. Moreover, the attention to detail is first rate as you will easily see in the photos. I can't say enough good things about this Cangshan NAKA 7" knife, in fact I find myself reaching for it more than my trusty Chef's knife. And the Damascus layering is the icing on the cake. Looks good, feels good, and stands up to anything you can throw at it. If you're looking for a good 7" knife, give this one a try. I have no doubts you'll wind up keeping it.
Cangshan NAKA Series 503114 X-7 Steel Forged 6-inch Serrated Utility Knife with SheathI love to cook and I find that having great quality kitchen equipment makes a huge difference. It makes the preparation easier and and often has a positive effect on the final presentation. I previously ordered a Cangshan chef’s knife and love it, so I decided to try this one. I have a few different serrated knives, but none that I love as much as this Cangshan knife. The ones designated as bread knives are quite long, limiting their usefulness for cutting small food items. My shorter one is a tomato knife, which is not strong enough for dense foods. The Cangshan 6” serrated utility knife does it all. It cuts through oversized bagels and thick crusty breads with ease, yet doesn’t crush more delicate foods.Courtesy of my husband’s interest in blacksmithing, I have watched more than my share of shows on knives and blades. I’m not an expert, but I understand a fair amount about what goes into making a good quality knife and the different terms that are used to describe one. The blade is forged from 67 layer Damascus steel, which is an alloy of at least two metals. That number of layers is common in kitchen knives. Traditionally, Damascus steel knives that are well made are stronger than stainless steel and keep a sharper edge. The fit and comfort of a knife handle often varies between individuals. I have very small hands and found this one to be very comfortable and easy to maneuver. It is made of G10 (garolite), which is a composite material made from glass fiber sheets. It is extremely durable and almost waterproof.Although a great knife does not need to look good, this one is lovely. It has a permanent eye catching pattern that occurs during the Damascus steel forging process and there is also a mosaic rivet on the handle. This is a knife that you want to protect. The enclosed sheath has a magnetic strip that keeps the knife from slipping out, which protects you and the blade. Alternatively, you could insert it into a knife block or hang it on a magnetic knife holder. The knife should be hand washed and dried before storing. At a cost of approximately $120.00, this is not an inexpensive knife, but it has the potential to be more than worth the cost. I’m looking forward to using this Cangshun knife, which can handle a wide range of foods, on a regular basis for a long time!
The price of this has come down since I originally ordered this. That being said it’s still not necessarily cheap. I want to say it was $50-60 more originally though. All that aside I like the others figured this better be one heck of a knife. I’m a knife collector so I know quality can get quite expensive. From the beginning I think I had to wait close to 5 weeks for this to show up. Not amazing but it did eventually show up. The knife comes nicely packaged which could make a nice gift option if you’re into that. The knife itself is beautiful in every way. It’s got a perfect balance and everything looks flawless. The blade and the handle are both beautiful and the inlay is perfect. The blade itself is super sharp but being serrated it will be hard to sharpen in the future. The sleeve is nice and heavy with a magnet inside to help hold it on. It’s a good in between size that will be a great all around knife. I think that the original price while high was still probably ok for this knife. I feel like the $120 it is now is expensive but it’s totally worth it. Beautiful, flawless and overall great knife to add to your arsenal
This knife is amazing, I love it, and I hardly had to use any pressure to cut through my fruit and veggies. I wasn't sure how this would pan out until I used it, I have to say it will be my most used favorite knife ever. I plan to hand wash it only, the full tang design is what first made me think of quality then the nifty wood grain design gave it a lot of character. Has a little weight to it, but not bad, it feels light enough to be comfortable, the handle has a great feel and grip to it. High quality, superb for cutting through your meal prep work, and beautifully designed. Whether you need it or not, the sheath covering is great for loose knife drawer knives to keep them from poking or cutting while reaching in there. Or when camping uses you definitely want to protect your knife and yourself from accidents. It is not a necessity, but it is nice to have especially with this expensive knife you want to keep it sharp and at its best.
