Mostly very good quality, rack almost useless

This is a really nice canning starter package with the pieces varying in quality. Much of it is very good, some good, with some just ok. I only found one piece that won’t really do. But first, the pot - it seems to be really very nice, and I believe it too is 304 stainless (from everything I can tell so far - if I find out I am wrong, I will most definitely update). I think this could double as a stock pot or to use for a chili cook off or something like that. I saw what looks to be the identical pot advertised under a different name (same size, looks exactly like this one, lid and all) and there were a lot of reviews that said it was not induction friendly, even though it claimed to be. I am hoping this one is because it too claims to be. I cannot testify to that myself since I don’t have an induction top to try it out on at this point in time. It does look to be high quality and well made though, as does the ladle, funnel, and apron (which was a really nice surprise to me. I didn’t realize there was an apron included. It’s really sweet! They even lined it, and it is finished nicely). Even the separator piece that you can use to put between the jars if you decide to do a second level is better than expected, and the jar grabbers and holder / opener. The tong like grabbers, though, seem like they need to be adjusted somehow, because the two pieces that grab don’t come together evenly, though you can definitely still use them. The measuring cups and measuring spoons are, I would say, a step or two above the dollar store. They have stainless handles but the part that touches food is plastic - definitely backwards for this day and age. I really wish they would have continued on with the high quality stainless with them as well. The lowest quality part and the main reason I gave this a 4 star rating and not a 5, is the part that the mason jars will rest on, that lifts them out of the pot, or sets them down into it does not have the curvetures in the handles needed to rest is on the sides of the pot (which you need), nor do the handles reach the top of the pot - they are much too low for this nice tall pot for them to even be slightly useful. Honestly, since that part is so needed, and not nearly as helpful as what it should be, I’d bump this down to a 3.8 because it’s something you now have to try and find and purchase separately after nearly spending a hundred dollars (more actually, after taxes). However, since we can’t give partial stars, and because the rest of the kit is so nice (with the exception of the measuring spoons / cups which are just ok) and actually really useful, it does get 4 stars. I almost forgot to mention - there are only two pieces that are solid plastic, the lid grabber with the magnet, and the ruler that measures the space in the jar, but those don’t touch your food and are good quality plastic as well. Overall, I would still recommend this since there are so many useful components and them being well made. If the part I mentioned earlier is expensive or hard to find, I will update for sure - until then, happy canning!
