Lovely, sturdy, and lighter weight. Removable handle is great for storage and oven use.

I ordered this Cast Iron Pre-Seasoned Skillet - 11 Inch Non Stick Frying Pans with Lid because I needed to replace an old non stick pan.The sales page says this is cast iron, but it’s lighter than the cast iron pans I’ve used in the past. Some reviewers are saying it’s actually carbon steel. I’m not an expert, but I think this has a lot of qualities of carbon steel, including the lighter weight. Whether it’s carbon steel or cast iron, it should not go in the dishwasher. The sales page says the pan is dishwasher safe, but I wouldn’t risk it.I love the removable handle; I live in a tiny house in NYC, and storage in my kitchen is always an issue. I can store the handle in the pan, and it takes up much less room in a cabinet. The wooden handle is attractive; I like being able to remove it when I want to pop the pan into the oven. The sales page says the pan is pre seasoned, but I seasoned this before using it. Once seasoned, it cooks beautifully. Eggs slide right out, and I can get a great sear on meat without any sticking. The glass top and removable handle add to the pan’s versatility; with the wooden handle removed, the whole thing can go into the oven like a casserole dish. It’s convenient when I want to start a meal on the stovetop, then finish it in the oven.I like the lighter weight; this is much easier for me to use than my heavier cast iron pan. I have some spinal issues and loss of mobility, and I like being able to take this out of a hot oven without having to ask for help. I often have to ask my teenager or husband to remove my Dutch oven and cast iron from the oven for me; this pan is sturdy with less weight. This pan came with a set of instructions as well as a scouring pad and a metal spatula. I wouldn’t use the pad or metal spatula in the pan, but they’re nice for other uses. It also included a black dust bag for storing the pan.At the current price ($49.99) this is far less pricey than many 11” pans at our local kitchenware boutique, whether cast iron or carbon steel, and offers excellent value. I like this a lot; it’s easy to use and breaks down for easier storage. If you take the time to season it first, I think you’ll find this very useful—I know I have.

So far so good

This pan is nonstick and the bottom is thicker bottom than some pans. It was easy to assemble the handles on the pan and cover and tools was provided. It was packed well, but I noticed scratches near the handle area before assembling. I’ve had to heat and wash the pan a couple times before using because there was a slight smell. It is a good pan so far.

NOT cast iron but still a nice pan

I cook with real cast iron every day so when this arrived and the instructions talked about metal spatulas and heavy scrubbing I thought something was wrong. Once I actually handled the pan it became clear that this is carbon steel not cast iron. That is not a bad thing at all. It just means it behaves differently and needs slightly different care.Once I knew what to expect I realized it is actually a very nice pan. It feels sturdy and well balanced. The hammered texture is pretty and the lid is solid and fits well. The wooden handle is comfortable to hold and feels secure. Even the spatula makes sense once you know it is meant for carbon steel. The instructions are a bit all over the place but that is not unusual for pans that come from overseas. I seasoned it the same way I season my other carbon steel pieces and it turned out great. Wash it well the first time dry it completely wipe on a very thin layer of oil and heat it until it smokes. Do that a couple of times and it is ready to cook. Now that I know what it is and how to treat it I am happy with it. It heats evenly cooks well and feels like something that will last a long time. If you buy it just keep in mind that it is carbon steel and not cast iron and I think you will enjoy it too.

Lovely pan

I love the “banged” look of this pan. It is very cute and was easy to put together. It does say it is preseasoned but you do have to recoat it, as you do most pans. It says in the ad that it is dishwasher safe but the directions tell you to treat this like cast iron and NOT wash it once re-seasoned. It gives directions for light handwashing but those directions say to use steel wool and not soap if possible, so just a heads up. The pan itself is lightweight but it heats and cooks evenly. It is small enough that it could be a large skillet or small wok, giving you lots of options for its use. It seems very well, and thoughtfully, made so I think it will last quite awhile. I am very pleased with the way this pan looks and cooks such a variety of foods so easily. It is my new favorite!

Nice and Lightweight Cast Iron For More Everyday Cooking

This is a nice thin cast iron skillet with a patterned surface, glass lid and a thick wooden handle. The skillet as a whole is well put together and the instructions are not that bad, though I should have just listened to my intuition and seasoned it like I normally season my cast iron. In actuality it is more like the carbon steel wok I have and that always takes oil to cook with. This skillet is no exception. It can get the non-stick surface that my other thick cast irons get, but it's too new to tell. I did not season it as well as I should have and cooked on it. I added oil, but the egg I cooked began sticking and the surface got a bit tacky from the oil. I am guessing that my heat may have been too high for the initial cook. The directions, which I apparently didn't pay enough attention to say to use medium heat so this may be the case. I will need to wash and scrub it down and re-season it from the start again. The only thing is, I cannot bake this like my other cast irons because of the wooden handle. The wooden handle does screw off so that is a possible option. The pan is light and sturdy feeling with a nice thick wooden handle that installs easily. The lid is very useful for cooking and makes this skillet quite versatile for general everyday cooking. This skillet will most likely get more cook time than my thick and heavy cast iron skillet since my wife doesn't like lifting the heavy cookware. This is a perfect weight for her to move around and cook with. Just make sure you season it correctly and this skillet will last a good long while.
