Love it!
Lovely. Quality. Beautiful to look at.
I've had more convenient and easier to use pour over coffee makers before (and still) but I love the look and size of this one. It's got some weight to it too! It's a good size for both my wife and I to have a cup each. The price seems about the average for a pour over and it's nice that it came with some papers.
It's sturdy. It's heavy of course. I love it. It keeps my second cup warm.
Nice
Huge. As a single-cup drinker (I use a phin brewer,) this may be the first time I have a brewing method that is too large for me! Granted, this will be lovely when I have company, and want to brew more than just one cup at a time. It comes with filters, but if you don't know how to fold them, I recommend Youtube videos to learn. I just bought pre-folded ones, lol. The other thing is that for using a hand grinder, this will take a lot of beans to brew enough to fill it.Think of this as your party brewer, lol. Solid value, in the matte black color that is the shag carpet of coffee products this decade. Does not appear to have any plastic I can find, which is a relief. Taste is going to depend entirely on your ability to brew pour-overs, and the quality and weight of your coffee beans. You will need an extra large scale capable of going higher than the smaller, more espresso-leaning or small pour-over-leaning scales. Your best bet is to tare this when empty, fill the basin with the amount of water equivalent to how much coffee you want to brew, and calculate your bean dosage from there. I like my pour overs a touch on the finer side, but not so fine it takes forever for the water to go through the grounds. You're aiming for a good extraction; similar to espresso, if your pour over is sour, you've under-extracted, and ought to grind finer. If your pour-over tastes extra bitter, or takes a Lifetime movie for the water to filter through, you've ground too fine/over-extracted. Grind your beans a little coarser next time, and/or add a little water, milk, and/or a touch of salt to cut your bitterness so you don't waste coffee (especially in this economy.)
My brother in-law's daughter is on a club volleyball team that travels by us, so they stay with us every few weeks. We usually use our Keureg for coffee, but figured this would be a better option to allow for multiple cups for the four adults that drink coffee.First off, it is super, super easy to use. The filters fit perfectly within the "neck" of the container, and allow for an easy pour into the main body of the coffee maker. The coffee tastes great and it stays warm for quite a while. The maker itself looks really nice on our counter and is built like a tank. The walls of the coffee maker are thick and durable, and the leather hand protector strap in the middle is a nice functional design piece. For the money, this is a pretty great option, and it has saved us a lot of money by removing our need for a coffee pot while allowing us to use coffee grounds instead of a pod per cup. It saves on waste as well as the filters we use are composable with the coffee. We are very happy with this Gaiakallon pour over coffee maker.
