I tired of the wire slicers. The wire always loosens up, and occasionally breaks (with a 1.5# block of cheddar).So I thought I'd try this bladed one. How does it work? It cuts the cheese well... but I'm having trouble cutting thin slices. I've only used it a couple of times and may just need more experience? And the cheese starts to crumble near the bottom of the cut. Does this matter? The cheese isn't as 'attractive', like for company. That is why it gets a '4'. I do like that the blade goes into an open space instead of the slot that wire cutters have. MUCH easier to clean.But why a '3'? My biggest complaint is the blade on the underside of the slicer. It sticks down ~ a 1/4". If you pick it up, and your fingers find the blade - you could get cut! Especially kids. Maybe it deserves a '2' for that?A simple solution would be a metal tab next to the blade on the underside. My solution is to glue a metal tab, or a square of wood that would block the danger of that unseen blade. It would be much simpler to do when they make it...So do we like it? Yes. Can it be dangerous? Yes!
