VERY sharp, great slicer!

This knife came very sharp indeed. It wasn't what I'd call "hair-popping" right out of the box, but it did shave a few off my forearm when I tested it. A few strokes (literally just a few) with my honing rods took it the rest of the way to where I like my knives to be. It's what I would describe as an extremely good working edge, which is to say you're not going to push-cut a ripe tomato under its own weight, but you're going to slice through just about any food item with very minimal effort.The blade isn't too grippy, so slice foods mostly come right off. It's sturdy without being too thick, which makes it an amazing slicer.The handle appears to be real wood, nicely finished. It's very smooth, with no hot spots in my hand. The mosaic pin was a nice touch. The knife is nicely balanced and comfortable enough to use for extended periods.No issues with rust so far, and I don't expect any. We will see how well the edge holds up, but so far I haven't noticed any significant dulling. As with any knife, honing it before each use will help keep the edge in good shape.Between a nice blade and a real wood handle, this is a hand-wash-only knife. But it's well worth taking good care of.This is a joy to use. It's a very welcome addition to our kitchen, and an excellent value at the price.

Camping box knife, at best

I've purchased inexpensive-ish knives before, which were of much higher quality. This knife has a handle that looks nice in pictures, but IRL has kind of a plasticy feel to it. And the blade looks like high-quality forged, but IRL is very thin and somewhat flexible. I've owned better quality stamped knives. This one will go into the camping box, where there it will be an upgrade, but I would never use this in my home kitchen.

Really nice value for a beautiful chef knife

Disclaimer - I am not a knife expert nor a chef. Just a mom and wife stuck doing a lot of the cooking so consider this with my review.This is the best knife I have ever handled. It is absolutely beautiful and well balanced. It fits comfortably in my hand even though it is on the large size. It feels like I'm holding a super expensive chef-quality knife so the fact that is is $30 is amazing! It came beautifully packaged in a gift-style box.It is stainless steel with a full-length tang and 3 rivets holding the handle to the tang. The handle has a wood-grain look to it, but it doesn't feel like wood. The middle rivet has a beautiful design to it that really elevates the look.I've heard that the most dangerous tool in a kitchen is a dull knife and this is definitely not that! It is SO sharp! It slices through everything effortlessly like butter. I can't yet speak to durability, and I'm keeping my expectations in check. With proper care and use (always use a cutting board, hand wash, dont try to cut open cans or slice rocks) I think it should last a while. But even if I only get a couple of years worth, for $30 ‐ you absolutely cannot go wrong with this chef's knife!
