Economical and solidly constructed, simple canvas knife roll will hold large knives
The VRUIFA Chef's Knife Roll Bag is a really solid canvas knife roll for a small collection of essential knives. It's not perfect, but it's a nicely constructed knife roll at an affordable price. The roll is made of sturdy canvas, trimmed with a heavier edging, and has slots for 5 knives. The slots are varied in width for different style knives. Although many knife rolls are intended to be used blade up with the handles in the pockets, the different pocket widths (and product photos) indicate this one is intended to have the blades in the pockets. It lies flat when opened, including the flap. It rolls to a compact bundle, even ludicrously loaded (see photos) and canvas ties easily secure it. There's also a handy eyelet to hang the roll. Its a smaller roll than many, with only 5 slots. This is perfect for essential knives and great for travel. The tied roll will fit safely in a backpack or duffel, and the knives are completely contained so nothing will fall out. There are things that could elevate this roll, but they're not shortcomings that stop it from being an excellent value, so I didn't feel they warranted deducting any stars. First, the pockets are single stitched, so exposed blades could cut these threads (and once they do, the whole seam will likely unravel easily). Properly packing a knife roll would include sheaths or to protect the blades, which would also protect the edges. They could even be DIY with cereal box cardboard and painter's tape. Second, the canvas is raw - fine points like chef knives may snag when inserting in the pockets and it's susceptible to moisture or splashes. It doesn't claim to be otherwise - so keeping it away from moisture and taking care when inserting blades are fine expectations.Although it's designed for five knives, it can hold a ridiculous amount of knife in 5 slots. For the attached photos I packed it with a stunt load - not what I would regularly carry in it, but what were the biggest knives I could fit in it. That includes a 6.7" Serbian chef knife, a cleaver, a 12" chef knife, and two 8" chef knives. Forgive the wax residue on the two big knives, they're brand new out of the package. These knives all fit into the slots, although the rightmost 8" chef knife was the closest to capacity. In a normal load, though, I'd probably put a paring knife in that smallest pocket. But it's got capacity for a significant set of knives which should perform many functions for a travel kit or outdoor BBQ set. The 12" knife is the maximum length that will fit in it and also my largest knife (tied in length with my brisket slicer), and that big honkin' Serbian knife/cleaver is far wider than any other knife I own. Everything smaller than those extreme examples has no problem going into this knife roll. There are lots of options out there with more pockets (many designed for handle-down placement) and made out of waxed canvas or leather for protection from moisture as well. But they're overkill for just a few knives, so this is a great choice for home cooks who want to take knives or anyone with a few essential knives. And at the time of order, the price just under $20 is a good value.

VRUIFA Chef’s Knife Roll Bag, Portable Canvas Cases, Chef Bag With 5 Slots Pockets
Great knife roll! Made of thick, sturdy canvas, stitching is solid and feels secure as well. The knife roll has 5 slots, with one even wide enough for a cleaver (which I own but am too afraid to use, lol), and with slots long enough even for my sharpening steel. The foldover flap on top really keeps the knives from sliding around. With the flap down and it rolled up, your knives are secured and protected inside, and there's no chance of a knife slipping out and hurting someone.I am a decent home cook, and prefer to bring my own knives when I travel. I have a plastic holder that snaps to lock for my 8 inch chef's knife, so that was the only one I bring. Now I can bring a whole assortment of knives! This knife roll is sturdy and well made as I mentioned above, can hold your knives securely and safely to all sorts of destinations /uses. Camping would be great, AirBnb vacations (cause everyone knows their knives stink and dull knives are dangerous!), potlucks, church meals/potlucks, parties, beach, barbeques in the park, and on and on. Or just use this awesome knife roll at home for safely storing your knives away from children or to keep them from damage due to banging against each other.I don't mind the brown, but as a home cook, I would prefer a prettier color, or even a pattern. But I get that brown is more gender neutral, and professional. The knife roll is secured with the built in ties, which are also made of the same heavy duty brown canvas. The ties are just the right size for tying a simple knot, and not longer which could be a safety hazard. I like that the manufacturer thought through so many details and produced this perfect knife roll. Get it for yourself as a home cook or a professional, or give it to anyone who appreciates quality and useability.

A practical way to travel safely with your own knives
I picked up this knife roll because I needed a better way to travel with my kitchen knives. I am not a professional chef, but we travel and rent houses often and we typically cook most of our meals. Over the years I've learned that relying on whatever knives are in a rental kitchen is usually a mistake. Dull, flimsy knives are not only frustrating but also unsafe. Because of that, I always bring my own knives along. Until now, that meant wrapping them in a kitchen towel and packing them up carefully, which works, but isn't ideal. This knife roll is a definite upgrade from kitchen towesl. The canvas material is decent quality and feels durable without being too stiff. It has good structure to protect the knives but still rolls up easily for packing. All of my knives fit well, including a larger cleaver. The slots are laid out in a way that keeps each knife separated, so they are not banging into each other during travel. One of the biggest benefits for me is safety. With the towel method, unpacking required a bit of caution when reaching into a bag where I knew sharp blades were wrapped together. With this roll, everything stays in its place. The knives are protected during travel, and I feel much more comfortable handling the bag when packing and unpacking. It also helps knowing the blades are protected from damage.Once rolled, it fits easily into a suitcase or duffle bag without taking up much space. It feels secure when rolled, and nothing shifts around. While this would obviously work well for someone who cooks professionally, I think it's just as useful for home cooks who travel and want to bring their own tools. Having a dedicated place for my knives feels much more organized and intentional than improvising with towels. This knife roll keeps my knives protected, and makes traveling with them safer and easier.
