These silicone food storage containers are very practical and great quality. They seal well, don’t retain odors, and keep food fresh for longer. They are easy to clean and can be used in the microwave and freezer. They also save space and are a great reusable option. Highly recommended for everyday use
We have few food storage containers in our home, and those we do have are missing lids. I have been wanting to get new containers for leftovers and for my husband to take food to work, but we do lack storage space in our kitchen. I did not know that collapsible storage containers were available, so when I saw these I thought they would be a great fit for our needs.These seven storage containers, plus a sandwich bag, come neatly stored in their own tote bag. Despite the several containers, the entire setup is lightweight and can easily be placed in a kitchen cabinet. This is a flexible form of silicone which is why it is easily collapsed into a relatively flat state. I do not think the bag is necessary for storage as these stack nicely in cabinets, but it is a good option to keep all of the containers together as well as for travel.This is a thinner type of silicone but still durable, and able to handle heat and dishwashing well. The lids are a stiff plastic and close via locking tabs that click into place when they are secure. While the nature of the materials here resist damage well, there are some issues and they are primarily due to the thinner silicone. For one, the lids are durable but somewhat heavy for the lightweight silicone. When I try to secure and lock the lids, the silicone collapses a bit and I have to attempt to lessen pressure but then this makes locking difficult. Also, with heavier foods like pastas, these are more problematic to stack because the silicone starts to collapse under the weight.The description states that these containers resist odors and stains, but that has not been my experience. I decided to test these claims with the biggest container stainer, spaghetti. I placed leftover pasta in two containers overnight. When I got them out to reheat the pasta in a separate pan, I immediately soaked them for a few hours, then washed them three times. Even after this, there are stains throughout the inside (see photos) and it’s even worse than with regular plastic. In addition, even after all of the soaking and washing, there is an odor of garlic still on the material. An additional issue with the cleaning, is that because any type of pressure collapses these containers, they start to collapse during the process and it can be hard to get into the crevices without constantly having to readjust them.These are durable containers that will likely last long, but I do think the stain and odor resistant claims are overstated, and in my case, simply not true. I also understand that collapsible containers will inherently start to collapse slightly under pressure, but these are overall not great for heavier foods because weight is problematic to the structure and makes stacking difficult. For these reasons, they are not a good value for all needs. I can definitely recommend these for lightweight foods that do not have a strong odor and stain capability, but for a replacement of more rigid containers they are less suitable.
