Attractive and tasty looking towel, but more decorative than functional
I've been looking to upgrade my collection of kitchen towels, as several are quite old and somewhat threadbare. So when I saw this SFEDSGVHB brand Italian food kitchen towel the design caught my attention, because the print pattern seems ideal for a kitchen. The single towel arrived folded within a sealed cellophane envelope. When unfolded it does indeed measure 16"x24", which I consider to be an ideal size for a kitchen towel. The texture of the towel's white fabric has a nice waffle (honeycomb) pattern front and back, giving it both visual and tactile appeal. The food pattern is printed (not stitched) on the front side, while the reverse side is plain white. The hem seems well stitched so should hold up over time. I really like the print, which features a wide variety of differently colored Italian foods, including; a cup of espresso, olives, grapes, pastas, breads and pastries, anchovies, spices, pesto sauce, garlic, olive oil, and wine, to name a few. It conjures up an appetite just looking at it.It's noteworthy that the product description emphasizes the decorative nature of the towel, for which it is very well suited because of its visual appeal - it's a tasty looking towel. However, I consider it to be more ornamental than functional, owing to its polyester fabric construction, which is far less absorbent than equivalent cotton towels, which I much prefer. It is also thinner than more plush kitchen towels I own, further reducing its utility. I suppose it could be useful as a final dish drying towel, but this is not the towel I'd reach for if a glass of water tips over. And, speaking from experience, since it's mostly white it will eventually show stains much more easily.Because the towel is polyester and so thinly gauged it's unlikely that I would offer it as a standalone gift, as suggested. However, I really do like the suggestion of it being a good addition to a gift basket, particularly if the basket includes items on the towel, like nice cooking oils, pastas, spices, olives, and wine, for example. I might even throw in a can of anchovies or sardines for a coordinated humorous effect. In that situation, the texture and attractive print of the towel would make it part of a superstar gift, all for the economical $8.99 asking price.
