I've broken so many glass cake covers, I brought this to replace one and I just use the glass plate. It's is very lightweight. I would not put this is a dishwasher, mine gets very hot and I feel like this has the possibility of melting. The height and size is perfect for 2 tier cake 6 or 8 inch round, with some space left to not get icing on the lid. This can also be used outside for covering fruit bowls and snacks for the children.
This dome is exactly what I needed... lightweight and shatterproof, but clear and polished enough to pass for glass. It gives a nice elevated look to sweet treats I'm displaying without the worry of breakage when my guests are lifting it (or if my kids get curious). What I really appreciate about this is that it doesn’t require a special base to use. As long as the inner diameter of your plate matches the size of the dome (11.8"), it works beautifully! That makes it versatile and easy to coordinate with whatever dish set you already have.So far, I used it to cover pastries on a plain white dinner plate and it looked like something straight out of a bakery window. I've also got a plan to use it on my ceramic cake stand (as pictured). I appreciate that it is functional too, if you are in an open air venue and are dealing with flies.If you like to host, it's a great addition. If you're a baker, it makes everyday baking feel a little more special. I’d also consider gifting one for a housewarming party.
