I wanted to like this more, but I cannot ignore the noticeable flaws the product I received came with.Pros:Knife feels substantial, looks great and unique. Definitely will stand out in any kitchen or BBQ. If sharp, definitely large enough to get through any task from carving turkey to slicing the biggest brisket.Cons:Maybe quality control at Dalstrong has gone down a bit since my previous purchases from them. My order arrived with a few minor scratches, most noticeably on the handle. This may be amplified because the knife is all black, but this was going to be a Christmas present and appearances matter at this price point. Most importantly, this slicing knife arrived DULL for a quality brand out of the box. Would not even slice through paper. A major disappointment and leaving me scrambling for either a replacement or last-minute sharpening service. If it was not a gift it would be less of a problem long-term.Knife was also shipped with no external box (which is no fault of Dalstrong but just FYI), and thus arrived with some banged-up corners.All-in-all an unfortunate roll of the dice on the quality control game. I’ve had good experiences with this company in the past. Hopefully this order proves to be the exception.
Excellent knife!! Sharp and works great
Save ur money and just get regular stuff these are not worth
Cut like a blade, amazing.
Dalstrong is an interesting knife company. They make very unique looking knives, very innovative in a field that's very static. Luckily, their knives are also fairly good quality and decently designed, although pricey. This particular knife and the others in the series are particularly unique in their looks. If you are looking at this knife, it's because the looks appeal to you. They are quite striking in real life as well, but the question is how do they work as a knife?I've used this one primarily for vegetable prep. I have knives much better suited for meats, although the blade shape is a modified chef's knife essentially. The blade profile is the same as a chef's knife but with a lot of the back taken out. I discovered when I opened the box, this was surprisingly light. The looks made me expect much heavier, but if you remove that much material from am chef's knife of course it'll be light. That does mean that it lacks the heft I usually want for meat prep, but it did increase the agility for other tasks. I would also use this for some slicing and types of fillet work. It's not a fillet knife (lacking flexibility), but I could use it to cut chicken breast into super thin cutlets or similar work.It performed well for the tasks I had, except for garlic. Lacking much of the blade, it wasn't as easy to crush a bunch of garlic like with the side of a chef's knife. Everything else was smooth. The blade was sharp, I will likely touch it up, as I think there is some room there. It's fun to use. I do prefer a more traditional handle, as the angular grip is not as comfortable as my rounder gripped knives.Overall, this is a bit gimmicky, especially with the high price, but definitely worth considering if you like the looks. You'll get a very quality knife, something that deserves to be in the price range that it is, while having something very unique in your knife collection.
I am not normally a fan of unique designs when it comes to kitchen knives. If you announce you’ve made a sword based on your favorite movie/book/ancient poem I’m there and want to see what you made. If you tell me you’ve made a kitchen knife inspired by any of these I’m outta there. Which is why I was more than a bit conflicted when I got this knife. The design screams sci-fi from the handle to the blade. The lines overall are sharp/angular. Then you get it in your hand and that is where you find that this actually is a very well designed knife. Now my take on it, before holding it, was that it was some sort of futuristic bayonet. The handle, despite the previously referenced sharp/angular shape, rests perfectly in the hand. It has the right amount of clearance – for your hand/knuckles – for slicing. It has a remarkably thin spine, which is why this is most definitely a slicer knife. The blade has the necessary level of flex to avoid dinging/notching the blade if you are using it properly. I’ve used it on produce and deboned proteins, it is razor sharp and lightening fast. It drops almost straight through them with very little pressure or a slight draw or pushing motion. This knife is for the adventurous, the experienced and the curious. The price reflects the quality and the company has made the entire knife an event from arrival to first use. It is something for the special home chef in your life or just as a perfect slicing knife for making the perfect tomato and cold cut sandwich.
