Very, very attractive blade and knife
I got this knife because I collect them for display. I just love the artisanship and the appearance of the many styles of blade and handle. This knife is a very good example of that excellent workmanship! The pattern of the layered steel blade is just gorgeous. From my non-expert eye, this is true Damascus steel – I can tell that the pattern is not simply etched onto a simple steel blade [also notice that the pattern on my blade differs from the photo of the patterned blade in item description]. The olive wood handle – my favorite wood for its coloration and grain pattern - is very well crafted. It’s smooth and I can’t find any tooling marks. My knife is not center-balanced as they show in the photo in their description, or just behind the bolster - a typical eastern balance. Rather, my knife is forward-balanced about 1” towards the tip [see my photo]. The balance point is a personal preference, I only mention this because the photo does show the balance to be different. The knife comes pre-sharpened, and while it is sharp, I’m sure an expert could do better. As mentioned, my particular knife is a display knife only – I want to preserve its beautiful pristine appearance. This is a nice addition to my collection. The price at the time of this review is $70, a great price for a true piece of art, as well as a good price for this level of quality work. Given this level of quality, I’d expect the knife to likewise perform well as a working kitchen knife.

Snicker Snack Sharp!
Amazing what a difference a good knife can make! The GrandMesser Damascus Chef Knife comes beautifully boxed for giving, but I'm glad I gave it to myself because I have apparently been living my entire life using sub-par knives. The etching on the blade is beautiful and the olivewood handle is smooth and feels good in my hand as I use it. I cut up a thawed, uncooked turkey with it and it worked wonderfully well, slicing through the meat like it was butter. It's almost too pretty to use, but now that I have, I'll definitely continue to. As others have noted, a sheath for it would be the perfect touch, and more convenient than storing it in the box, nice as it is. I have a knife magnet where it would be not only convenient but also put it on display, but I hear conflicting reports about how it's not good for knife blades so I am just using the box for now.

Beautiful knife, almost perfect
This knife arrived quickly and was very well packaged in a gift box. The markings on the blade are attractive, and the wooden handle has a nice feel. It is quite sharp and cuts well. The handle is a bit shorter and lighter than what I am used to. The metal does not go through the handle like the other knife pictured. This throws the balance of the knife off a bit.

A good blade!!!
I got this for my husband who is a cook and he loves Damascus blades. The Damascus on the blade is beautiful and the olive wood handle is too. He likes the weight of the knife. It’s perfectly sharp and after using it a week straight, the blade is still sharp, he hasn’t needed to sharpen it again yet. I want to get more blades by this company because it’s a good blade.

Love this knife
Very very sharp knife. I did not show the sharpness enough respect and cut my finger enough for surgery. Beautiful knife and very well made. Worth every dime.

Amazing, well built, sharp knife with beautiful handle
This is a very high-quality knife. The detailing in the metal and the woodwork is superb. We used it to cut up a brisket and it worked amazing. I wish that it came with a sheath to protect it, but it does come in a nice box. It is made of olive wood and has incredible detailing in the wooden handle. It’s been smooth down very well and feel soft and buttery to hold. The knife is very sharp and cuts like a dream. Very happy with this product.

Good Knife, but doesn't seem true Damascus
I have a hard time believing this knife is made from real damascus, but it's possible. The back and edge of the blade have no visible clues to the folded layers. The price is a bit low, realistically speaking to be justified at this price point. It does look good at a glance, comes reasonably sharp, and cuts nicely. The handle may or may not be actual olive wood. There's a bit of gap between the handle and the steel. It's a comfortable size and weight, and I don't think you'd be unhappy for the price, as long as you're not expecting the value to be that of hand forged damascus, which it seems cannot be the case.
